An “insider” tells the Post that the late Heath Ledger’s ex Michelle Williams is furious with Ledger’s family over the management of his estate. Ledger’s 2003 will, made out before his daughter Matilda was born, bequeathed everything to his father, mother and siblings; Matilda is now considered the beneficiary, but according to the Post, Williams thinks Ledger’s dad Kim will blow his Dark Knight millions before Matilda reaches 18. (Ledger's uncles have claimed Kim Ledger mishandled their own father's estate.) Rumor has it that Williams is so upset that she’s going to boycott the Dark Knight premiere on July 14th.

The above mentioned article is so full of inaccuracies that it makes the NY Post's reporting seem even more of a joke than usual. Starting from the very first sentence, they did not even bother to get Heath's mother's name right. Sadly, with such a blaring error in the first sentence, something which could easily be fact-checked, there is not really much hope for the rest of the article, the entire premise of which is incorrect.
With a little actual investigation and fact checking, the Post could have come up with the following FACTS:
1. - While Heath only kept a small portion of "walking around" money in a NY account, nthe implication that he did not have much money is grossly inaccurate. He passed away a very wealthy man with the bulk of his estate being managed in a trust in Australia. He had no debt at the time of his passing, as he was responsible with his assets, and if at anytime he wanted to transfer funds into the NY "walking around money" account, he could.
2. - Matilda is well provided for by said trust, which Heath established in 2005 with the specific purpose of ensuring that she and Michelle were provided for. With the creation of the 2005 trust, the 2003 will is practically irrelevant. The "Thank You For the Trust Trust" holds Heath's entire financial portfolio, including cash, business investments, and real estate.
3. - Michelle is also a TRUSTEE in the Thank you for the Trust Trust, therefore, she ALREADY CO-OWNS what Heath left behind. By some reports, Heath also added Matilda as a Trustee. If that is the case, Matilda also already co-owns her inheritance.
Heath was both brilliant and a responsible financial planner. Anyone who knew him even the slightest would never question whether Matilda was provided for.
Whatever happened to actual investigation and fact-checking? I can't believe this story is still being dredged out and circulated. This has been so hurtful to so many who are still mourning and missing the presence of someone who gave so much in his short life, just by being who he was, by his kindness and generosity, the charities he quietly aided, and how he personally connected with and touched people, all quietly and without fanfare.
