Bound and Gagged in Greenpoint

0806gpoinggag.jpgMiss Heather refers to this scenario she snapped a shot of as "mildly disturbing," but the photo of a man bound and gagged in Greenpoint is seriously unsettling. What landed this man in such a precarious situation? Miss H tells us the scene wasn't just a gag or from a movie shoot...but was very real. While details are unfolding, what is known is that the incident took place at a restaurant in the neighborhood, between employees there. UPDATE: Miss Heather has just added on her blog that everyone turned out okay. Guess this is just some people's way of resolving a conflict.

Miss Heather should have had her camera at the Folsom Street East fair yesterday. Lots of gagging (and other things) going on there.

You're going to have to provide us with a bit more information on this one, no? Otherwise, what's the point?

Thats it? In what way is that a news story? Someone took a photo of a man bound and gagged and you have no further information whatsoever? Good work on the context.

Wait a minnute, what sources? This looks like a ... you know ... CRIME to me, with picture to prove it.

another fine jen carlson post. sad thing is that this had to make it past at least one editor.

'a picture of a guy tied up with no context whatsoever? that's news! publish it!'

Unless Gothamist has a little more to add to this, why is this here? You just reposted something from another blog with no explaination, no possibilities.

i thought i was too clueless and wasn't getting something about this post. guess not. come on guys!

Ok, well, Miss Heather just posted this on her blog (your only cited source):

Trust me, everything turned out OK. No one was harmed physically or emotionally. No crime was committed.

So, I am still awaiting your back-up on the story.

This Heather broad is the most annoying and petty blogger in NYC.

Why Gothamist continues to link her is unfathomable.

Curbed dropped her inanities months ago.

She is an annoying elitist newbie who represents everything bad about Greenpoint.

I am beginning to believe the constant criticism of Ms.Carlson is legitimate. This post is a complete waste of everyone's time.

Do yourself a favor, Jen and her editors: remove this stupidity asap and no longer honor Heather and her petty world view with future links to her irritating website.

Thanks in advance.

So why does Miss Heather makes it sound okay and Gothamist is pointing towards something sinister?

Yes jgee, that is my question.

But the more important question is why did Gothamist even bother with this? Especially without any facts or details.

Actually, Miss Heather did not "update her blog" but posted a response to a simple question asked by me (and I'm not even a paid professional semi-journalist or anything).

So, I still want some info about the following from Gothamist (given that the sort of charming but maybe ditsy or alternatively intimidated Miss Heather has said her piece):

What sources?

What restaurant?

Which employees?

What happened exactly?

Then I will decide for myself based on ... you know ... sound journalism if I think that this is a police matter - or not.

"Guess this is just some people's way of resolving a conflict."

Which would be illegal, and constitute a CRIME.

So, again, what exactly (if anything) do you KNOW about the events depicted in this photograph?

And it is important that Miss Heather copyright such sh**ty writing.
God that blog sucks.

Anna, you'll keep waiting. There's no accountability for the poor journalistic standards that are used by some of the "Reporters" on this site. The two Jens are clearly the worst.

Agreed that Miss Heather has to be one of the most annoying transplants I have come across. She feigns to have a depth of knowledge on New York history and culture, and yet calls 311 so often for petty complaints and bulls*&t that they no longer even file her complaints. (I have been told this by businesses that are in contact with various government authorities she harasses.)

Seriously, Heather, don't you have anything better to do than put pictures of construction workers on their lunch break on the internet? And you have the nerve to complain that THEY are whistling at YOU?! You just snapped a picture of the dude! Um.... perhaps he thought you were interested?

I think Jen should go work at gawker where people are interested in stuff like this.

OK, If I have this much right. This picture was taken not at a "restaurant" but in the shop of (or maybe outside of the shop of) this person:

http://www.myspace.com/vortexnyc

and Miss Heather says:

"P.S.: No one was hurt or harmed in any way during the taking of this photograph. After being debriefed the above captive was released no worse for wear. In fact, he thanked Larry. The Thing is a junk shop, not Guantanamo Bay. Simple tomfoolery, nothing more."

Was he thanking him for not killing him? Seems profoundly not funny to me.

That said, what exactly was the Gothamist crap about sources and restaurants?

I really am truly waiting for some sort of explanation.

"There's no accountability for the poor journalistic standards that are used by some of the "Reporters" on this site."

Huh? "Journalistic standards?" "Reporters?"

I always thought this was just a blog. I don't understand why some people get themselves so worked up while holding a group of people to standards to which they themselves don't aspire.

This is Gothamist. It isn't CNN, The New York Times, or even Fox News. If you expect professional journalism, you should be seeking out the work of professionals. What you'll find here is simply links to news stories and some sometimes-witty commentary on those stories. If that's not what you're looking for, why are reading it here?

This is even embarrassing for a blog. Miss Heather should have posted details or not posted at all. And Gothamist should have never picked this weird story with no details from some random blog.

re:jaycjay
it is a blog but it's a highly regarded one- whatever that's worth. jen chung for a short time, was a weekly guest on The Brian Lehrer Show commenting on current, local events so, i don't think it's out of line for us to expect higher standards than just dramatic one offs from lackies.

"And Gothamist should have never picked this weird story with no details from some random blog."

Well I can't say I really disagree with that. There's plenty of random junk on hundreds of blogs locally and otherwise, and this pic and post on one of them has really no significance at all especially without any backstory... or evidence that there really even is a story.

So I guess my point is that while I don't expect "journalistic standards" what I appreciate about Gothamist is that I can find interesting and relevant items without having to check out dozens of sites -- so I would appreciate a little discretion about what's pointed to here.

this isn't a story. it's a picture with lousy context. should never have been posted, and its not clear why it's still up.

c'mon gothamist, there are SO many other ways to get page counts up.

tried and true:

1. Rudy Giuliani story
2. street art
3. Shake Shack
4. Hipsters
5. bicycles

i'm rooting for shake shack, since it's been at least a week since I've read about the line, or the linecam, or whatever

This lovely autobiography tells you everything you need to know:

Ever since her parents set her loose from the woodlands of Connecticut, Jennifer Carlson has been absorbing the New York music and arts scene. Now, over 10 years later, her appetite for the cultural wealth of the city remains wonderfully insatiable. Jennifer breathes in the stuff that makes New York unique, and gladly lets the best of it out for you to read on the Gothamist Arts+Events section.

Snerk!

Still, this post is under the "news" heading, not entertainment.

Still, waiting on the sources and info. and "restaurant" facts.

fyi: missheather is not a newbie transplant. she's lived in Greenpoint for about 8 years, as mentioned on her blog. this neighborhood blog actually makes an effort: it doesn't copy off other blogs, mailing lists or newspaper headlines and you're spared overly-personal details about the blogger's private life. but if ya don't like it, don't read it.

This Heather broad is the most annoying and petty blogger in NYC.

Why Gothamist continues to link her is unfathomable.

Curbed dropped her inanities months ago.

She is an annoying elitist newbie who represents everything bad about Greenpoint.

I couldn't have said it better myself. My only caveat is that unfortunately Curbed is still mildly obsessed with her. She's a total weirdo and most people actually in the neighborhood *hate* her.

This Heather broad is a rookie.

She's not from here is she?

#26, you forgot Park Slope stroller yuppies.
