Last Night's Action: Into Thin Air

• Rockies 7, Mets 1: Everything was fun and games in this one until a sixth-run Colorado fifth. Pedro Martinez gave up all of those runs. He started by allowing two solo home runs, then gave up a double, single, single, double. There was a strikeout thrown in there, but it clearly didn't help Martinez too much. He has one quality start in five outings this season. He also didn't get help from his team's offense, which apparently didn't get the memo that the mile-high air is supposed to boost scoring. Ubaldo Jiminez held it to two hits in eight innings. Jose Reyes tripled to lead off the game and scored on a sacrifice fly, but the Mets got one hit in their next 27 batters.
• Reds 6, Yankees 0: For a game that featured pitchers making their first Major League starts, this game didn't have a lot in it until the seventh inning. Dan Giese blinked in the seventh inning, when he allowed three runs. The Yankees couldn't get anything going against Reds rookie Darryl Thompson -- who apparently got lost taking the subway to the game but still managed five scoreless innings -- and the Reds bullpen. Jose Veras and Billy Traber combined to put the game out of reach. Andy Pettitte will try to avoid the sweep during Sunday's finale.
