In a world where lawsuits against coffee spillers have been filed and settled for considerable sums, you'd have to wonder what the parents of a 4-year-old pre-K student in Brooklyn are thinking, after their son was scalded when a teacher spilled hot coffee on his head.
The Post reports little Colin Huston, who attends PS 238 in Gravesend, "lost a patch of hair and was permanently scarred" when a teacher bumped into him earlier this week in the school cafeteria. His mother said, "I went completely ballistic. I was just very upset... Part of his hairline is gone." Yikes!
It turns out that the Department of Education's policy "does not allow anyone walking with a hot liquid without a cover or lid as a safety precaution." Get thee a lidded coffee mug!
Two years ago, a State Senator's former aide accused her boss of scalding her with hot coffee. The aide, upon State Senator Ada Smith's announcement she lost 4.3 pounds, had apparently said, "Oh, that's good, senator, but at the rate you go around I would have thought you'd lose 20 pounds," only to have coffee thrown on her. Smith, who claimed her aide said she needed to lose 100 pounds, was convicted of harassment.

HA! teacher was trying to scam milk for his/her coffee like woody harrelson in kingpin

Jen, I think your quote is missing a word.
I am pro-teacher (both parents were) and pro-union, but I hope that this dumb-f@ck teacher gets his/her stupid ass fired AND has charges filed against her and the union does the right thing and gets out of the way (other than providing legal defense as they are required to). Anyone imbecilic enough to carry hot liquids around children should be prohibited from being around them. This is child abuse.
Agreed. It exhibits very bad judgement. She should have invested in a thermal cup with a lid that's hard to spill. Like you know, the kinds parents buy as to not spill coffee on their children.
Question though, how do people get their coffee that hot? Maybe she doesn't put milk in it but I'm lucky if 5 minutes after pouring my coffee it isn't lukewarm already. The coffeemaker in the teachers lounge must be set to some exreme temperature.
"lost a patch of hair and was permanently scarred" - How do they know he will be permanently scared if it only happened a few days ago?
They know because juries always award more money to the parents of kids that are "permanently scarred". The science is irrefutable on this.
