captainblackout: Those provisions are in the agreement that the teams sign with the league. The other owners have to agree, though, and they tend to look out for each other. Also, the league wouldn't terminate one of the original six so what we're really talking about is a forced sale, if it comes to that (and if the courts uphold the contract as legal).

Can someone explain this to me... the league can terminate the Ranger's membership in the NHL or force the current owners to sell the team?
