Mets Fans, Media Still Annoyed About Randolph Firing
The Mets' midnight firing of manager Willie Randolph and two other coaches continues to piss off various parties. The Post uses a little bit of Photoshop magic to place a knife in new manager Jerry Manuel's hand--aimed right at Randolph's back--for today's back cover.
Some fans in Syosset sent Mets owner Fred Wilpon a box containing five raw chickens (not on ice, either) plus their season tickets. The fans are Georgi Vodka owner Martin Silver and his employees; Silver explained to Newsday, "The chickens portray [the Mets management] are chickens. The more they smell, the better." And those tickets are no small thing: They are four box seats located three rows up from third base.
As for Randolph, he spoke to reporters outside his NJ home yesterday, "My heart is still with this team. I'm just disappointed I won't be the one to lead them. It's a real numbing kind of feeling. You've been in baseball all your life, and now you have to start thinking of the reality that, at least for the near future, you are [just] a regular Joe."

The media is annoyed because it's their job to be annoyed about everything. Mets fans are over the manner of the firing already because when it comes down to it, we wanted Willie fired months ago and we're glad to see the back of him.

the media is pissed cause none of them were able to get the scoop since the firing took place while they were sleeping and past deadlines. thats the ONLY reason the media has had such vitriol to the mets. why do they care so much of how willie was fired when the week before ALL of ny media was calling for randolph's head. its not the mets that are absurd, its the sports journalists and bloggers who all of a sudden do not abide by factual storytelling, but are too busy opining and listening to themselves speak/write.

Can we move on already? He was canned for cause-he didn't produce. He was a shitty manager. Good riddance. There is an opening in Seattle. If Randolph is such a fucking commodity he will be the next skipper of the Mariners. Better managers have been fired for far less. Hey Met haters, Joe Torre was shit canned last year too. He won 4 World Series and had that team in the playoffs every year. He managed some great players and produced. Still he was fired... Baseball is a tough business.
