Governors Island Waterfall Tested, Ready

061908falls.jpgDelayed spoiler alert: The photo here from Curbed reveals what Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson’s waterfall looks like on Governor’s Island. One of four on the East River, it’s not supposed to be “officially” turned on until next Thursday. Oh well, now we know. For those keeping score, we've now seen the Manhattan-side Pier 35 waterfall test, and yesterday's test of the Brooklyn waterfall between Piers 4 and 5. That leaves just the waterfall under the Brooklyn Bridge left to spoil! (Send your waterfall test pics to tips(at)gothamist(dot)com or tag them “Gothamist” on Flickr.)

But let's not let these photos stop us from admiring the falls once they’re all simultaneously spraying East River water next week. Besides the “official” Circle Line Downtown boat tours – not to be confused with the rival $50,000 Circle Line Sightseeing CruiseStreetsblog hips us to the DOT’s handy dandy “Bike the Falls” guide. The PDF has all the info you need to pedal as close as you can get to the waterfalls without a pontoon bike. The suggested route culminates with the free ferry ride to Governors Island, which is a great place to cycle anyway, and boasts a lot of great weekend events all summer, including a July 5th concert by the New York Philharmonic.

Is this worth 15 million?

saw this out the office window this morning. lovely!

Went on a boat ride yesterday evening while they were testing this. It was nice.

Remember that winning proposal to makeover Governor's Island? Now there's a waterfall for the unicorns to prance around.

Seeing an individual test is no spoiler-- just a teaser for seeing all 4 at once. Can't wait to witness, so exciting.

Awesome; I saw a rainbow.
