THEATER: Writer and director Aya Ogawa’s Oph3lia plucks the hysterical, doomed sister of Laertes out of Denmark and immerses the character in the fractured modern world. Her heavily stylized play explores clashes of gender, culture and identity through three different iterations of Ophelia: as an isolated Japanese immigrant in New York City, a Korean student at a Christian school for non-Chinese girls, and a translator for a theatrical production company. Theater blogger Obscene Jester calls it “a brilliant exploration of suspension – in time, in space, between words, and between bodies.” – John Del Signore
