the guilded age starts with those who dont see y people cant get better jobs....like they have.

50000 a year (collee degree required)
minus taxes = 36000 a year
minus 18000 a year for a crappy one and a half bedroom (1500 a month rent)
minus 6000 a year for cable, electric, phone, gas, metro card equals (500 a month)
1200 a year for food & recreational expeditures (college?)....(1000 a month)

The story about the Port Authority director clearly says that he hasn't yet received any compensation for his work on that board. But the Gothamist headline says he got $100,000. Board members average $100,000/year in compensation but he's only been serving a short time and may actually resign.
The headline of the News article was Port Authority boss also earns 100G as part of nonprofit's board in the paper it read PA boss' 2nd 'job' Also earns 100G as part of nonprofit's board.
I saw the documentary about home births from Ricki Lake. While it was one-sided, it did raise a lot of valid points that are hard to deny. For instance, some of the quotes they have from doctors like "They can't sue you if you [c-section] them." Also that almost all other civilized countries include mid-wives in hospitals as part of the labor process.
You begin to wonder about alternatives when your OB is running 90 minutes late and only sees you for 2 minutes.
In Ricki Lake's case, a C section was quickly ruled out. No reputable medical equipment manufacturer makes a two-handled cheese wheel knife large enough to perform the operation on her. But they had a radial arm saw available. Fearing infection and an embarassing scar, Ms Lake opted for home birth.From what I understand, mother and newborn baby did just fine.
