Re the Boerum Hill jail opposition: The city will continue jailing people for probably the indefinite future. That, unfortunately, requires actual physical jails to exist and since the Downtown Brooklyn area is a municipal district it makes sense that a municipal jail would be placed there as well (and was, many years ago). Having a jail in the neighborhood causes negative externalities, and the city can and should provide extra services to mitigate those problems. I have a lot more sympathy, however, for families of inmates who have to travel from Brooklyn all the way to Rikers and for the inmates who have to be housed at Rikers when there is another viable option for them.

Hey, Dr. Ruth's book about puberty made me much less freaked out about what was happening to my body at age 11. That's a high level of achievement in my book. That being said, if she has never lived in the Bx then putting her on the walk of fame there is just weird.

When cops tried to arrest a Bridgeport, CT man, he sicced his nine-foot python on them, yelling "Get them!' Fortunately, the python was as responsive as its owner was stupid. A python wouldn't be responsive -- implying the owner wasn't stupid.

Fortunately, the python was as responsive as its owner was stupid. unless the snake was very responsive, i think you got this wrong
