  • Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a shooting on Madison Ave. and 108th St., a suspicious death on Parsons Blvd. and Union Turnpike in Queens, and an impersonation(!?) at the FDNY academy on Randall's Island.
  • Unless your carbon-offsetting account is firmly in the black, it would be better if you were chugging French, rather than domestic, wine.
  • In a momentous lowering-the-bar moment, "Dr. Ruth" was inaugurated into the Bronx's walk of fame. In addition to her rather low level of accomplishment, she's not from the Bronx.
  • When cops tried to arrest a Bridgeport, CT man, he sicced his nine-foot python on them, yelling "Get them!' Fortunately, the python was as responsive as its owner was witted.
  • Bulls, Bears, and . . . and Raptors? Oh my! Wild life in the financial district is cuter and more exciting than one might think.
  • Women did their time in fake boob hell. It's time for men to get in line for the "tall" portion of tall dark and handsome.
  • A former Mt. Kisco police officer was acquitted of killing an illegal immigrant that was found dumped on the side of the road in Westchester.
  • A meta-documentary on Tumblr.com. Blogging, re-blogging, it's all in there.
  • Not that the people of Boerum Hill want arrested people "hanging out" in their neighborhood, they just don't want a jail for those people in their neighborhood.

From the article: "... he was threatening his girlfriend with the albino python."

I'm sure that's just a nickname for his wiener.

Re the Boerum Hill jail opposition:

The city will continue jailing people for probably the indefinite future. That, unfortunately, requires actual physical jails to exist and since the Downtown Brooklyn area is a municipal district it makes sense that a municipal jail would be placed there as well (and was, many years ago). Having a jail in the neighborhood causes negative externalities, and the city can and should provide extra services to mitigate those problems. I have a lot more sympathy, however, for families of inmates who have to travel from Brooklyn all the way to Rikers and for the inmates who have to be housed at Rikers when there is another viable option for them.

Hey, Dr. Ruth's book about puberty made me much less freaked out about what was happening to my body at age 11. That's a high level of achievement in my book. That being said, if she has never lived in the Bx then putting her on the walk of fame there is just weird.

    Indeed, adjustments have been made.

A python wouldn't be responsive -- implying the owner wasn't stupid.

Three cheers for Westchester County jurors! Are they available for rent outside their Juris Proper?
