With Barack Obama finally clinching the Democratic nomination for president, we’re now off to the racists. Last week a Staten Island woman noticed that a 5 dollar bill in her wallet was stamped with the above message: “LETS [sic] KEEP THE WHITE HOUSE WH!TE!” The slogan was positioned next to the Lincoln memorial on the back of the bill, according to the Staten Island Advance.
Mutilating or otherwise vandalizing U.S. currency is a federal offense that can be punishable by up to six months in prison, but officials rarely investigate such behavior, which ranges from scrawling “I grew hemp” next to Washington’s face on the dollar bill to drawing geysers of blood spraying out of the pyramid eye. In this case, the racism highlights the unspoken dread that someone might bring the Democratic candidate to an untimely end. And it's still June!
But the Secret Service, which has been working with Obama since early in his campaign, seems unfazed; a spokesman told the Advance “this is rather innocuous ... given the current political place where the country is.”

Sadly, we should get used to seeing this sort of thing. Fox News was called on three racist jabs this week.
Don't worry about why I'm an expert on this topic but in reality the law defines 'illegal' defacement as defacement that renders bills unfit to be re-issued.
The U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing says this about Defacement of Currency:
Defacement of currency in such a way that it is made unfit for circulation comes under the jurisdiction of the United States Secret Service.

of course this came directly from the obama camp. and you all fell for it. keep your eyes peeled for blatant and anonymous displays of racism during this campaign, but not in the deep deep south, but rather where the swing voters are.

Well, there is a bit of hipster-ish irony in the facts that Lincoln's on the five dollar bill, Obama represents Illinois, Lincoln is credited with freeing the slaves, Lincoln was caricatured as a black person, Obama cites Lincoln as an inspiration for his historic run, Lincoln too had very little experience, Lincoln sought to keep the Union from fracturing into all sorts of splinter groups (pardon the mixed metaphor), and well...there's the threat part.
