After rumors of Mayor Bloomberg eying the Governor's Mansion in Albany in 2010, a Quinnipiac poll reveals that NY State voters wouldn't mind a billionaire governor. Out of 1,388 NY voters, 30% said they like the idea of Governor Bloomberg.
Current Governor David Paterson was in third place, with 23%--former mayor Rudy Giuliani was in second with 26% (15% of respondents picked Attorney General Andrew Cuomo)! Given that the margin of error is +/- 2.6 percentage points, imagine an election with Paterson, Giuliani and Bloomberg all running against each other!
Respondents were also asked about gay marriage, and the findings were:
- 42 percent say same-sex couples should be allowed to legally marry
- 31 percent say these couples should be allowed to form civil unions, but not marry
- 21 percent say there should be no legal recognition of same-sex unions.

It looks like Gov. Patterson showed up to the parade dressed as a Foot Locker employee.
"115% of respondents picked Attorney General Andrew Cuomo"
Wow, that's quite a survey!
And why should the state, or any other entity, have to "validate" my union and/or marriage?
Obama leads McCain nationally by 6 percentage points?! Upstate Republicans are 63% in favor of gay marriage?!
Are we actually evolving into the next stage of Hominid evolution??!!
I'm going to put this out there cause I'm cool like that. Divorce lawyers catering to gay clients are going to make a mint. Can you imagine how crazy gay divorces will be? Who's going to get the paisley frilly drapes? In a hetero marriage that would easily be the woman but in a gay one everything will be contested down to the exfoliating face crystals. I gotta study for the bar now, I suggest you people who want to be rich do so as well.
@drewo, re: state or entity validating a same-sex marriage or civil union, it has to do with partners being recognized for benefits.
Gays will get married, then divorce, get married, then divorce, until the wedding presents get so shitty that they'll say "fuck it" and just blow each other without a license.
I think after Hillary's disgrace, we'd all be happy to see Bloomberg in her place now.
Jen,
I'm all for paying for this website, and having subscriber-only, real name commentors. Sometimes I just skip Gothamist so I don't have to be disgusted by the racist/sexist/basically hate-ist commentors.
You can do it.
