apparently none of you have been on the west side on the weekend...not safe at all. unless maybe you're walking your bike alongside three friends and you're all blathering on obliviously...but i digress

I applaud them for the effort, but it's just not as easy as mapping out directions for a vehicle. There are plenty of streets I'd feel safer on than ones with so-called bike lanes; the west side is going to be faster than streets anytime (for lack of traffic and lights), which it cannot yet understand; and just now I put in some coordinates and it took me twenty blocks out of my way.

#3- I find that if you go twenty miles on westside pathway the wind that you generate is good enough to cool you down. Stopping is another story though. Once you stop you get the body heat accumulation as well as the sun all bearing down on you.

until the streets are completely revamped to make them safer for bikers there are no "safe" routes

This is pretty useful. Too bad, as babyhitler pointed out, bike paths are all too often blocked.

It is a nice day for a bike ride today. You'd probably die of heatstroke before you got out of Manhattan. At the very least you'd need a shower immediately upon arriving.

there are no "safe" routes unless its on the west side pathway and there aren't any drunk drivers. All these bikepaths will be blocked by double parked cars and taxis.
