Last Night's Action: 2-1 Is A Bummer

Kansas City 2 Yankees 1: The Yankees had their chances, in fact they had a lot of chances, but their own failures and a terrible umpiring call kept them from capitalizing and they fell to the lowly Royals Friday night. Darrell Rasner was very effective, pitching eight innings while allowing only two runs.
But, the offense couldn’t help him. They got ten hits, but they couldn’t string them together to create scoring chances. Unfortunately, the Yankees best scoring chance was aborted by a horrible call from the umpire. With two on and two outs in the eighth, Giambi was punched out when the home plate umpire said he swung at a pitch that he clearly checked his swing on. The umpire didn’t ask for help and the Yankees’ arguments went for naught, just like their night.

San Diego 2 Mets 1: Johan Santana can do a lot of things, but providing the offense shouldn’t be one of them. Santana pitched six solid innings, but the Mets couldn’t hit Randy Wolf or the Padres bullpen managing only a run thanks to a David Wright sac-fly.
