Clinton Will Drop Out and Endorse Obama on Saturday

2008_06_hillaryapac.jpg

Senator Hillary Clinton's campaign say she will drop out of the Democratic presidential race on Saturday and rally behind Senator Barack Obama, who clinched the Democratic nomination last night. According to the NY Times, "One adviser said that Mrs. Clinton would concede defeat, congratulate Mr. Obama and proclaim him the party’s nominee, while pledging to do what was needed to assure his victory."

Clinton's concession event will be in Washington D.C.; it was originally planned for Friday but her team moved it to Saturday in order, per a campaign statement, 'to accommodate more of Senator Clinton's supporters who want to attend." Apparently Democrats have been urging Clinton to step down in order for the party to unite behind Obama, and some of her backers, like superdelegate former VP Walter Mondale, have expressed their support for Obama (Mondale said Obama "has an excellent change of winning" against McCain).

New York Congressman Charles Rangel gave a few comments. To the Times, he said, "We pledged to support her to the end. Our problem is not being able to determine when the hell the end is.To ABC News, Rangel said, "Unless she has some good reasons — which I can't think of — I really think we ought to get on with endorsements [of Obama] and dealing with what we have to deal with … so we can move forward." He added, "The fact that she said that she would be willing to serve as vice president doesn't necessarily mean that she's seeking the vice president's job."

Jeebus, acquiescing from her is like pulling teeth.

#22, I hear you, but there's "good" weirdass crap, and there's "bad" weirdass crap. And Obama is just too hazy right now to tell which he'll be proposing. But anything he does will be 1,000 times better than Bush's insanely weirdass crap, which basically killed America deader than shit.

Dude69 and Kissel, McCain's economic policies are incoherent at best and a disaster-in-the-making at worst. You think our deficit is bad now? Wait until four years of that guy. The supply-side fallacy will be exploded.

  • hungryghoast

Dude69 and Kissel... you might be (rightly) concerned about the economy and how Clinton or Obama would handle that... but don't you think the war has a huge effect on all that? With all the tax $ that's going towards the war rather than programs at home... If you don't want to see tax $ wasted, why would you vote for McCain who won't end the war in Iraq?

  • TooTallJeff

Please, please, please do not pick her for VP. You don't pick someone as loaded down with baggage as Sen. Clinton when your message is change.

  • Fritzdecat

    great video Vanessa NYC...

I wonder how many more painful speeches McCain has up his sleeve..?

  • kissel

I kind of agree with dude69. I would have voted for clinton because i think she would have been better on economic issues - particularly if she tapped in the economic advisers of her husband. I will definitely vote for mcain over obama. we don't need higher taxes and more gov't handouts which he's already stated he would do.

  • Anna_Merkin

The NY Post is just making nice before it begins 5 months of bashing the guy. They aren't complete cretins over there at NewsCorp.

  • JMH

There's no freaking jinx. The Yankees aren't winning because their best players are over the hill and the rest of the league is catching up with them.

  • yoplay

21... we need some weirdass crap, cause if bush/mccain/clinton is normal crap then give me weirdass.

  • sonyactivision

Hillary should never be Vice President. She needs to remain in the Senate and go after Harry Reid's Majority Leader spot. Reid is a piece of shit and an embarrassment. While hillary's no prize herself, she can use that bully pulpit to prove out her agenda or forever STFU. Also, from there she can do some 'Obama alterations' in Congress because he doesn't know shit about anything and will propose a lot of weirdass crap.

And Marvin K. Mooney just left....

It would be nice if her blind ambition and asinine behavior killed her political ambitions for good.

Her reality distortion field is on the level of Bush or Jobs.

"Isn't it curious that the NYPost is so positive on Obama's win?"

Yes, it is. It might be fishy, or perhaps they've just been taken by Obama's charm.

"I can see the Republican spinsters laying an Obama bombshell, possibly of a sexual nature,in Oct. to clinch the win for McCain."

I highly doubt it. I don't think he's a philanderer, but I'm sure the GOP will attempt to pin SOMETHING on him.

  • Dude69

I can see the Republican spinsters laying an Obama bombshell, possibly of a sexual nature,in Oct. to clinch the win for McCain.

I am definitely not an Obama supporter, but isn't it curious that the NYPost is so positive on Obama's win? Maybe Rupert is up to some dirty tricks with his "endorsement".

    babyhitler,

You are correct. Bush also lacks refined public speaking abilities yet he won the presidency twice. I think people overlooked his obvious stupidity and were drawn to Bush's everyday man image. People felt that they could relate to Bush and wanted to have a beer with him and not with Kerry or Gore.

So what's my point in attacking McCain's speaking abilities? Here it is, in all it's irrelevance to policy and things that SHOULD matter:

Obama is a rock star. Obama is young, charming, positive, confident well-spoken and good-looking.

McCain is old, waxy faced and gray-haired. McCain is bitter, awkward and often appears confused.

I happen to think that Obama's policies and leadership style are much better for America than McCain's, BUT I think Obama's good-looks and charm are what will win the undecideds, push him over the edge, and make him the next POTUS.

    Get ready for it, babyhitler.

    Peace.

"Well, time to switch my Clinton'08 signs to McCain'08. Anyone but Obama, who if elected will drop the economy into deep Depresssion with poor people lining up for miles for government handouts"

    Dude69,

Obama's policies are nearly identical to Clinton's. You might want to do your research...

  • Dude69

Well, time to switch my Clinton'08 signs to McCain'08. Anyone but Obama, who if elected will drop the economy into deep Depresssion with poor people lining up for miles for government handouts. And don't think that he'll get us out of Iraq as quickly as his supporters think either.

Also it's the Bloomberg jinx not Hilary that cause the Yanks not to win a WS, but I don't give a damn if they don't win anymore WS.

Maybe Barack can challenge McCain to one on one Basketball for the presidency. McCain can even use his walker and wear his adult Diapers. Then after Mccain collapses from a heart attack, Obama can start feeling up Cindy McCain.
