That was my point, Jay. I don't believe that she just "fell off the wagon" in the sense that it's portrayed. It seems like she had made the conscious decision to make the buy. However, what I didn't fully understand was how one just "asks" around for this sort of thing. Seems like a high risk approach, especially for someone who'd had a lot of experience using before. In this case, it was indeed high risk.

Anna. It was through a friend of a friend who's cousin who knew the dealer. She's been clean since she left that other brat MacEnroe. Do you realize what he did for tennis? I guess not. Do you realize how professional tennis has changed this world for the better? I guess not. Without professional tennis ex-mayor David Dinkins would just be another politician. Can we get real here? A spoiled brat gets clean and gets dirty and apologizes because she is saved? She had way too many opportunities in her life, unlike most of us, and she fucks up constantly. Hopefully she will move up to heroin and dies of an overdose.

Being admittedly naive about the art of buying drugs on the street, I'm trying to figure out how she was able to identify a dealer and negotiate the transaction unless she'd already been in touch with him - or with a friend who connected her to him. I mean, the description above sounds a little like she was strolling around, upset about her dog and decided to buy some coke, so she hit up the first dealer who she saw. Could be a misread, but it seems a little odd to me.
