Prom Night for the Privileged

17032017-17032021-large.jpgLife imitates Gossip Girl tonight as the teens from six of the city's most elite private schools join together for a prom in the Waldorf's Starlight Roof (the Waldorf ballroom is where public high school Stuyvesant's prom will be this Friday -- ground floor for the plebes!).

The NY Sun reports on the gala event, which will bring together a privileged pack from Collegiate, Browning, Brearley, Hewitt, Spence, and Nightingale-Bamford schools. Dinner, dancing and silver-plated service will all prequel the main event: the after parties.

People at the Upper East Side school Dalton are planning such a party, complete with a legal waiver parents must sign promising not to sue the hosts should something happen to their children. The after-party is so popular that it has a waiting list, filled with the names of about half the members of the senior class, a source said.
Apparently, the exclusive no-fee parties are a far cry from other teens will be doing after their big dances; "prom experts" (really!) report that teens "particularly those in boroughs other than Manhattan" usually end their special night paying to get into a club, heading to the NJ shore or having breakfast at a diner. What about the rich kids whose parents are crying poor, though?

Fear not, Brooklyn: The Grand Prospect Hall in Brooklyn hosts prom-goers from Brooklyn Heights' Packer-Collegiate School with red carpets. But whether you're Blair Waldorf or what's-her-name from the wrong side of the bridge, you'll probably have your night soundtracked by Taylor Swift.

What about, like, scoring?

Maybe that's because teens aren't saving themselve for prom night anymore. Sigh, I feel old.

Wow! They are going to have Stuyvesant's prom there this Friday. Any idea what the menu will be?

I also liked these Halloween dress up affairs. It makes everyone feel older. Shouldn't there be something like a reverse prom for people over fifty to make them feel younger?

Most prom dates get fat by their thirtieth reunion. Enjoy the big titted chicks and the guys with the full head of hair while you can.

Maybe this is my Stuy bias, but isn't the ballroom waaaaay better than the starlight roof? I think the starlight roof is way smaller, and not nearly as grand looking...

Besides... Friday Prom Night > > > > Tuesday... :)

the last time I saw a prom night event was when I was down in NC. they had a BBQ festival in the same civic center. BBQ Prom.

what are the theme songs!!!!!!

Agreed - the Grand Ballroom is quite impressive. The Starlight room is pretty lame.

The prom is actually next Saturday.

I heard that the Brearley school was able to raise enough money to lower the cost of tickets to

under $20.

seriously? are we arguing about the "nicer" section of the waldorf? i went to my stuy prom in the "plebes" section and felt pretty damn fancy. it's gorgeous.

Doesn't Stuy have their own gym? Proms are suppose to held in your high school gym. It's a tradition.

the ballroom is the marquis hall. the roof is quite pedestrian.
