Fervent Clinton Supporter Explains Tirade to Fox News

After the Democratic National Committee's Rules and Bylaws Committee decided to give Florida's and Michigan's delegates half votes, a dedicated Hillary Clinton supporter who had traveled from Manhattan to the meeting on Saturday vented to those gathering at the Marriott. And did she vent!

Caught by left-leaning blog Firedoglake (video above), Harriet Christian, a self-described "older American woman," accused the Democratic Party of throwing female Democrats under the bus and called Barack Obama "an inadequate black male." And then she said, "They think we won't turn and vote for McCain? Well I got news for all of you: McCain will be the next President of the United States."

Christian's remarks have been a hot topic on on cable news and talk radio, and she made an appearance with Fox News' Neil Cavuto to, among other things, discuss her disappointment and explain why she won't vote for an Obama/Clinton ticket.

Christian's friend Will Bower writes on the Huffington Post today, "Harriet is salty. Harriet is a firecracker. Harriet is many things. But Harriet is not a lunatic. She is a life long New Yorker who has worked for civil rights for over forty years. She's a woman full of life and passion. She's a woman who gave her emotions free reign for a few well-televised minutes."

I will work for the resounding defeat of the "inadequate black male," and I will vote for McCain.

DNC must be "punished" with the "inadequate black male" crashing and burning in November and the Democratic Party a train wreck in November.

"She is a life long New Yorker who has worked for civil rights for over forty years."

And she's more than willing to vote for the man who vowed to overturn Roe v. Wade, out of spite. We don't have enough bullets for so many people wanting to shoot themselves in the foot.

She's got a point. The Democratic Party, if they had a strong leader, would have put an end to this divisiveness a long time ago. You don't think there are tens of thousands of swing voters looking at this ugly fight and thinking "McCain is the lesser of three evils"? Just wait until November, when Obama loses by six or eight or ten electoral votes.
One state is all it takes.

I will vote for Mc Cain over Hussein Obama.
Hillary has been pushed out of the race.
I'm a middle class black gay New Yorker and I would never vote for Hussein Obama.

That's a loud Koo-Koo bird.

Typical old-school-lefty, siege-mentality Manhattanite.

Back in the day, she must have been instrumental in Robert Moses's demise; she probably nagged him to death.

Most likely, the crazy old bat would've moved to Boca Raton if not for rent control of her classic six.

Dear Choppy,

"I will vote for Mc Cain over Hussein Obama. I'm a middle class black gay New Yorker and I would never vote for Hussein Obama."

And I'm a black vegetarian lesbian and I want to have George Bush's babies. Oh wait, I just made that all up.

^She still visits Boca regularly to inspect ballots and shop the day-old rack at Publix. I salute Hillary on the tremendous quality and eloquence of her followers.

Sheesh...Is Roe v. Wade the most important law ever passed???Cross your legs, you freaking loons.

Elected NY (& NJ clowns too) love to pose for cameras Schumer style & declare their support for "woman's reproductive 'rights'", or how they voted against Bush's tax cuts for the "rich". Yada yada. Meanwhile, congress-critters from poor, dinky states are helping themselves to tax money paid by OUR states. There are dead-end highways named after Robert Byrd & bridges to nowhere named after Ted Stevens while I chip my teeth trying to drive across Manhattan.

Our taxes are sky high, public transportation sucks, bridges crumble, cranes fall, potholes can sink a Prius, a gallon of gas costs nearly as much a cup of Starbucks coffe, BUT dogma requires that abortion remains taxpayer-supported. Yay!!! Glad to know our congress-things have their priorities straight.

I'm sure her granddaughter will be real proud of her when she is forced to resort to using a coat hanger for an abortion because her grandma's feelings were hurt and out of spite she willingly helped the supreme court overturn abortion.

Hillary and her supporters were simply too confident. They never planned for after Super Tuesday. Boohoo.

This is why Hillary won't be president. Because her supporters are silly, emotional, irrational, and not living up to what feminism was supposed to be. I've had it with the old feminists. It's time for a new feminism (and I don't mean the sex and the city kind).

Hillary is such an embarrassment to me as a feminist and a woman, and a democrat! Go way, already.

"She is a life long New Yorker who has worked for civil rights for over forty years."

Translation: she voted a straight Democratic ticket for 40 years, encouraging their devolution into identity-based spoils system patrons. This Dem runoff is the natural result: a Godzilla vs. Mothra contest of designated victim groups claiming special protected status.

Blacks and spoiled young "progressives" don't care about rich old white ladies, and working class whites and narcissistic old feminists don't care about "black" ivy-league millionaire socialists.

Boo-hoo, my identity politics backfired! Wahhh!!!!

"Democrats" like her piss me off. Crazy, old bat gives all us women a bad name.

Any self-proclaimed "Democrat" Hillary supporter who would vote for McCain over Obama obviously has no principles to begin with. Selfish sore losers who are secretly racist. (And yeah, being a woman doesn't exclude you from being racist).

Hillary and Obama share similar ideas -- the difference is character. Hillary has given plenty of reasons to think she is lacking in it. Initially supported her but got tired of her being such a pandering, "misspeak"-ing, devisive tool.

The idiotic gas tax holiday proposal (originally McCain's idea-- the REPUBLICAN candidate's idea) just to maneuver votes from the not-so-bright portion of the voting population while knowing full well that it was economically/environmentally a bad idea was icing on the cake. Bragging about having more support from the "uneducated, white, working class" is not something I would shout from the rooftops. Race-bait much?

All the braindead women who cling to Hillary solely because she is a woman need to look at the bigger picture. Whining about how everyone was "unfair" to and"pushed" out a female candidate is far-fetched. Cry wolf like this and women will never advance in areas of discrimination when it really counts. The DNC and the public have been more than patient while waiting for her to bow out.

Bottom line: Hillary supporters who opt to vote for McCain out of spite have only themselves to blame when we get 4 more years of a shitty economy, astronomically high gas prices, thousand more lost lives in a war over oil (McCain finally surprisingly even admitted it!- and it's on tape!!!), and increasing worldwide terrorism. Wake up, already.

shades of Zell Miller, or Dana Carvey's "angry old man" character.

No matter what happens another Republican should not be in office. We had eight years of Republican power and look how this country is headed towards disaster.

Bill should be able to run again.

(a) Claiming sexism is the downfall of Hillary borders of psychotic. She's up against a black man, people. Which of these groups do you honestly think gets shit on more in this country? Seriously? He's a black man with the middle name Hussein and a last name that rhymes with Osama who came out of left field during the early days of the primaries when they BOTH trounced a bunch of white guys. Hillary lost because her campaign faltered after Super Tuesday. Period.

(b) Voting for McCain out of spite is actually psychotic. Obama and Hillary were both good candidates, and their platforms are almost exactly the same. If you want a century of war in the Middle East and all the associated lives lost, status quo on our horrendous economy, and no health care plan... then, by all means, take your revenge because the election got "stolen" from your pick.

(c) I really believe (hope) that the people screaming about supporting McCain if Hillary doesn't win aren't representative. Of all my level-headed, rational friends, none of the Hillary supporters have made such a ridiculous threat. They, too, can see that our country is careening towards crisis that will only be made worse with McCain in government. For my part, I would have happily voted for Hillary if Obama had lost the primary.

Bitch better get back in the kitchen and make me a sandwich. Obama just did to Hilary what Obama's Father did to his mother; Fuck a white woman and leaver her ass holding the bag. Don't hate the playa.

Typical white person.

I never thought I'd see it, but New York is now the closed-minded, ignorant population center of North America. But so is L.A. Big cities are over. Medium-sized city regions are where all the innovative contemporary thought is occurring in 2008.

She complained about Obama's experience...yet Hillary was only a Senator for a few years.

She complains about Obama only being in the race like he is because he's black, yet Hillary is ONLY "successful" as a politician because she's riding the coattails of her husband.

What has Hillary done?

Obama is *black*?? Hillary is a *woman*?? How could this have happened?? Quick vote for McCain! He'll strike these minorities down.

Harriet Christian is just a tool of the Republican Party.

"[Christian] has worked for civil rights for over forty years."

I don't see how this jives with her "inadequate black man comment"

I grew up with men and women like this. They're liberal so long as they get to make the decisions about what is good for minorities and/or poor people. When they lose that power the ensuing fits are pretty scary.

To me there are two styles of liberalism - old style and the progressive style. Clinton represents the former and Obama the latter.

Time for change. Obama 08!

I've said it before, Manhattan gives spinsterhood a bad name.

I agree with her. McCain will win.

McCain will will because the Dems cant put up a unifying candidate, again... for the third time in a row.

Until the DNC can find a person to get everyone excited they are in trouble.

should be "will win"

Sounds legit to me - a liberal Manhattan democratic picking FOX NEWS to air her grievances? Oh, no it actually sounds like a GOP prank and Gothamist took the bait.

an interview between two people who think it's normal to refer to "the blacks." suuure.

I can see the backlash coming for Obama and the DNC, namely their failure to appease the Florida and Michigan delegates in time, alienting the Hilary base that Obama MUST win over in order to be elected President. Hilary supporters WILL sit on their hands and wait out the 4 years for their candidates, or vote for McCain. Candidate loyalty is stronger than party loyalty, and people keep forgetting in a general election, only a handful of swing states matter.

If and when Obama looses to McCain in Nov, the DNC only have themselves to blame.

What an inadequate old white women.

I've actually met several people (self-proclaimed feminists all) who claim that Sen. Obama's campaign is actually a red herring from the GOP, designed to set back the cause of feminism, divide the Democratic party, and assure the GOP control of the White House. They believe that Sen. Clinton deserves the White House and that only a conspiracy of rich white men is keeping her out.

And they are crazy.

Sen. Clinton is (mostly) acceptable as a senator; she is no more in the pocket of corporations than any other politician, and I share many of her beliefs. However, it is clear from the way she has chosen to run her campaign that she is not interested in the good of America, nor the good of her party. She is interested in being the President. Period. And her followers are exactly the same. Single-minded, ferocious, and completely unconcerned about any good but their own (or, in this case, their candidate's).

Clinton's style of politics is the exact reason why so many people voted for Nader. Many people want a candidate that can bring back a certain level of intelligence, eloquence, and, I don't know, class maybe? to American politics. It surely is not Sen. Clinton.

I know that if she somehow manages to swipe the nomination at the convention, I will be staying away from the polls. I can't cast a vote for McCain (since, politics aside, I happen to know he's got HUGE anger management issues), but Sen. Clinton has left a bad taste in my mouth, and I want no responsibility for putting her in the White House.

hillary is the devil. she had no shot to win. 50% of the population can't stand her. its laughable that this batty old lady says she is casting the vote for all americans. i'll keep my own vote thank you.

Please also see this article - may not be true, but at the very least makes for interesting reading. Says that Sen. McCain's campaign may be encouraging outbursts similar to this one.

It's ironic that a few months ago Clinton supporters would claim that it was Obama who appealed to dumb people, suckering them in with a simplistic mantra of "change." Now all Clinton has left are the raving idiots.

Unfortunately, in this country, the dumb people sometimes win. Let's see how many people in the Nov exit polls still insist Obama is a Muslim.

Re. Hilary's "experience," anyone who can make Chuck Schumer look like a house on fire . . .

Waaaahhh!!!!! Call the Waaaaaahmbulance!!!

"an inadequate black male"? Nice! Wonder if she's Sen. Clinton's major constituency?

Hello Choppy, any chance I can contact you? I'm a foreign reporter and am interested to hear more about your opinions. You can reach me at boereboeleba (at) hotmail.com

yea who doesn't see this as FOX news springing a jerry springer like episode guerilla style... ya'll give too much credit.

"Hello Choppy, any chance I can contact you? I'm a foreign reporter and am interested to hear more about your opinions. You can reach me at boereboeleba (at) hotmail.com

glad to see you have a lot of integrity, leon. this american salutes you in your attempt to portray our society in a factual manner. (i'm being ironic. you are apparently incompetent as far as i can tell.)

I can't believe so many people support her ramblings.

Come on, this isn't about reason or issues. This is about people whining that their specific candidate will not make it to the general election. Please get over it.

Both candidates have very similar stances and policies. We've learned what happens to this country when we let Republicans be in charge for 8 years, another 4-8 will just set us farther back with healthcare, economy, civil liberties, etc.

It isn't about you. It's about the country, so stop playing the bitter card. We don't even need the Republicans to attack Democrats, we'll do it ourselves. This is a great example of why Hillary should have dropped out long ago, everyone is just getting angry when we should be united.

Why is it that the only Hillary supporters they can find seem to be crazy old spinsters and southern racists? I have the answer, but why ruin all the speculation.
Obama has won the primary season fair and square. Hillary has really only won by repackaging Republican talking points. Once she saw that she was going to have to fight for the nomination and realized that she could not run on her record, which is pretty abysmal (Iraq war anyone?), she had to resort to tearing apart Obama and the Democratic Party. I am as cynical as anyone else, but come on, the Obama campaign has let her get away with character assassination. He could have let fly at any point through any 527 all the negatives that would have killed her had she become the Dem. Candidate against McCain. They have nearly two decades of opposition research on the Clintons and sure most of it has been discredited, but their are alot of folks out there who remember and hate her for it. So, what does Clinton do, unleashes it all on Obama and the party.
If we lose in November, we have the Clinton campaign to blame for it. Not playing by the rules is the Clinton M.O. I have lost all respect for her and Bill. I defended them to my Republican inlaws to no end. Now, I cannot do it anymore.
Crossing my fingers for a miracle in November.

This is rich. They should have thrown her under the bus.

Watch for more fireworks in the coming couple of weeks. Should they score a coup, believe that HRC will take this fight to the floor.

This whole primary season has left me even less sanguine about the prospects of our nation.

I'm an Obama Superdelegate who has decided to switch sides based on the words of this very vibrant and lovely lady. And I only hope to someday meet with her and hold hands with her firmly, and then shove that rat-haired, prunefaced old twat out the window.

"where are you from"

"I'm from New York!!"

(...ya think?)

I laughed my ass off listening to this lady.
