  • Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a bank robbery on 59th St. and 3rd Ave. in Manhattan, a man pinned under a car on Grace St. in Queens, and a floater in the Hudson near Pier 90 off Manhattan.
  • Despite recent and obvious presumptions of innocence before guilt, we don't mind naming 28-year-old Kathleen M. Beaton, who was pulled over for driving across the Tappan Zee Bridge into oncoming traffic. She was arrested for and accused of--but not yet convicted--of being completely drunk.
  • As Ted Kennedy undergoes brain surgery, the Times has a superb audio slideshow featuring Magnum photographer Paul Fusco, describing the rail ride of RFK's body from NYC to DC. "And they saw hope pass by, in a train."
  • An informative Q&A on what was involved with Sen. Ted Kennedy's brain surgery.
  • A 38-year-old Brooklyn man was sentenced to 65 years in prison after he opened fire at a family gathering and murdered his girlfriend's three-year-old niece.
  • A NYC woman is claiming that ill-mannered passengers and staff ruined her vacation cruise because they insisted on sexually groping her.
  • The online rack rate on a room at the Park Slope Holiday Inn is $457 a night. Less-affluent city visitors are advised to sleep in a van down by the Gowanus Canal.

Was the 38-year old man sentences because he opened fire or because he was dating a 3-year-old?

oooo! good call, cts11.
too bad you've got that panda avatar.
Hey, what's with all the reckless editing on this site, anyway?

"A NYC woman is claiming that ill-mannered passengers and staff ruined her vacation cruise because they insisted on sexually groping her."

In Article:
"Carter (Her Boyfriend), an aspiring novelist..., was videotaping and said he captured the harassment."

Way to Man Up Carter and protect your Girlfriend from getting Groped. Best to tape it instead!

Friends of mine on their honeymoon had a problems with stewards barging into thier cabin, as early as 4 am, supposedly to clean. They kept reporting it, but it kept happening. They hung a Do not Disturb sign on the door, and when that didn't work, they stuck thier suitcases against the door. Sure enough, the next morning, they were awakened by someone unlocking the door, and pushing it open, even though they must have felt the weight of the suitcases. Hubby ran to the door, ready to club the steward with a shoe, and the steward reported HIM for attempted assault!
The steward, they were told, was fired, but what about the other 2 guys who tried getting into their cabin? Suddenly, they had alibis, "witnesses" who said they were either still asleep, or at a crew breakfast before work started. My friends wished they had the foresight to sit by the door all night, with a camera.

$457 a night in a Brooklyn Holiday Inn ! If you told someone 10 or even 5 years ago that in 2008 a hotel in Brooklyn would try to charge that rate, they would send you to Bellevue.

^ The rack rate at Bellevue is even higher, unless your insurance pays for that 72 hour hold. Best to chew the leather in Park Slope...at least they cover it up there and don't require you to swallow your meds before TV time.
