- Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a water main break on Houston St. and 6th Ave. in Manhattan, a double shooting on Alabama and Jamaica Aves. in Queens, a car vs. building on 159th St. in Queens.
- When animals attack NJ: a Livingston, NJ woman claims a wild turkey crashed through her living room window before "fleeing the scene." A neighbor claims to have seen a black bear heading towards the Interstate.
- A woman in Suffolk County, NY veered into oncoming traffic and hit another vehicle, killing its 74-year-old occupant. The pregnant veerer went into labor and had her child delivered prematurely via c-section.
- Crane operator Donald Leo, who was killed in this weekend's UES collapse, was planning on getting married three weeks from the date of his death.
- 972 West Point Military Academy cadets graduated this weekend, not that far up the Hudson River from NYC. Eleven former members of the Point died since last year's graduation, KIA, but most most of the graduates seemed undeterred from serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, which is where they will likely be headed.
- Unlike former Presidential spokesman Scott McClellan, who wrote a scathing account of his former bosses' adminsitration, Mayor Bloomberg announced that he thinks such books are unnecessary and unappreciated. He made sure his mayoral spokesman, Stu Loeser, was standing right next to him when he expressed his disapproval.
- A fire broke out on a backlot at Universal Studios in Los Angeles early this morning, destroying a movie set of NYC brownstones and a vault containing 40- to 50-thousand reels of archival film footage.
