Governor Paterson issued a memo telling all state agencies to recognize legally performed, out-of-state same-sex marriages as valid marriages. This memo was, based on the February Appellate Court ruling, said gay marriages "should be afforded the same recognition as any other legally performed union."
Assemblyman Daniel O'Donnell said, "Very shortly, there will be hundreds and hundreds and hundreds, and probably thousands and thousands and thousands of gay people who have their marriages recognized by the state." But some critics say that Paterson was essentially circumventing the State Legislature, which has not passed previous attempt to allow gay marriage. Conservative Party head Michael Long accused Paterson of "destroying the fabric of marriage."
According to the Times-Union, there could "as many as 1,300 statutes and regulations" that will need to be revised, like "joint filing of income tax returns" and "transferring fishing licenses between spouses." Two interesting facts: The memo was dated a day before California's gay rights ruling and this will make NY the only state to recognize gay marriages but not allow them to be performed in state.
And mark your calendars: June 17 is when couples can obtain same-sex marriage licenses in California, which is a day later than county officials originally thought.

Let the state recognize degenerate gay "marriage". I never will.
To me, a gay "couple" are still two confused, degenerate creatures not even worthy of pity.
They are sick creatures with such low self esteem that they will fight tooth and nail for to pervert the sacred union of marriage in order that their perversion somehow gets declared a state of normality.
They deserve our scorn.

^ God loves even you jaja, even though your consuming judgemental hatred will most likely be booking you a one way ticket to Hell!
On another note -- can I marry David Patterson?
Pathetic jaja.
Wow... Jaja you are an asshat.
Is it possible that jaja is being deliberately provocative (see his/her second comment, consisting entirely of the complicated yet endearing smiley emoticon)?
On a more serious note, is it possible that Spitzergate was the best thing that ever happened to the State of New York? Paterson can do no wrong, at least not yet.
I would think that jaja would have used the winky emoticon to convey a "I keed, I keed" message.
I propose that we all ignore jaja's posts. Maybe he/she will eventually get bored and move to another blog.
Marriage should be taken out of the domain of the government and kept with the churches, and the Gov't should only recognize civil unions, regardless of sex.
That way the Right Wing can save their precious 'institution' of marriage while gay rights activists will get the coverage they need in all things legal, and if they really want to rewrite the books on marriage itself, they'll have to take it up with the Church, not the government.
Problem Solved. I'll accept that Nobel Peace Prize now thx.
Justice is blind. God bless you gov.
Kojak,
That's a good idea. A separation of Church and State? Who would have thought of it. Works for me.
Kojak, what do atheists and agnostics do in this little world you created?
Hope the Stockholm tickets are refundable.
When can we ban religion? I mean, if people really want to ban something, that should be at the top of the list.
Followed by NASCAR.
I like Natis' comment (#13).
I've always said Religion is the root of all evil.
Oh, and good job Gov. Paterson.
Circumventing the legislature? Please, we have the most ineffective state legislature in the country. There's nothing to circumvent. And regardless, this has nothing to do with the legislature, and everything to do with Full Faith and Credit. Our blind governor does a better job of reading than the Conservative Party.
"what do atheists and agnostics do in this little world you created?"
They'll be sent to 'Re-education' camps where they will be rehabilitated to become productive members of society through brainwashing, Lobotomy, and by watching reruns of Rachel Ray.
Bravo Kojak. Good idea. I'm surprised some straights aren't already opting for civil union as a political statement. (Aside from the fact that we apparently don't even have them in NY, just NYC "domestic partnerships.")
If I recall correctly, Constitutionally we (by which I mean our state government) *have* to recognize out-of-state marriages, same-sex or otherwise. It's because of the principle that all states are co-equals and are obligated to respect each other's laws, policies, etc.
Reruns of Rachel Ray?
F*** Y** YOU BALD BASTARD!
jaja, your schtick sucks.
