Water main breaks can cause serious problems and the city won't help you out much. I heard of a woman in Gerritsen Beach who had the foundation of her house damaged by two water main breaks just a few months apart. She didn't have money to fix it. The city told her to file for damages with the comptroller's office and then the Buildings Department condemned the house as unsafe and she had to leave. Then Buildings hired a contractor to demo the house and sent her a bill for the work.

I cannot believe the city is so callous to close these establishments after an old pipe burst which is clearly the fault of the DEP *DEP admits was caused by an old water main they had not yet gotten around to replacing.*

Shame on them. I wait patiently for the multiple money-making lawsuits that we will hear about when this is over.

I hope some sort of business interruption/Multi-peril insurance can cover their losses. sucks to have it happen during memorial day weekend.

I hardly think one needs to go to their website to find that Employees Only is in no way possessive or a conjunction and does not require an apostrophe.

Dr. Zippy, you may find it pedantic and it has obviously been proven that Gothamist writers are concerned neither with pedantic corrections nor with general proofreading skills. The hope is that enough complaining will inspire some corrective actions.
The terrible writing and grammar on gothamist is frustrating at (most) times.

So sue the City for negligence and use the proceeds (and there will be proceeds) to relocate to higher ground, as it were.

I'm sure gothamist writers enjoy the pedantic corrections, jack9.

"imminently perilous to life"? While the economic pressures on restaurants must be tremendous, you would think they would still have the sense to remove every last bit of raw sewage and check for structural integrity.

"Now the swank bar/restaurant Employee’s Only has gotten the hammer."

There's no apostrophe in "Employees Only". See their site, which is linked to in the posting.
