Hey, Citizen Skein, just cause I have a lot of friends who help me and you sit alone in the dark and comment on Gothamist. You can borrow my wallet any time you want, but it won't help a loser like you have any friends.

Love

Michael Green.

BTW, if you detest that "eyesore ‘white text on black background’ format" of the blog and too many other sites, that's another good thing about Macs. A simple Ctrl-Alt-Command 8 key combination inverts all colors on the screen. Not that even black text on white background is enough to make me slog through his rambling self-congratulatory post.

[20] But then again, I'm just an objectivist anti-social person who will stand aside while an elderly women gets raped and eat a bag of doritos while watching it.

So tell us something we don't know.

The tard give his bike over to a guy who simply asks for it, then buys it back for $50 in a deal engineered by the police.

How fucking stupid can you get. I can easily see another bike riding fag like babyhitler fall for such a scam.

PS - I thought the word "homies" was used by los angeles gangs in the 90s. I seriously doubt anyone except for over the hill white guys trying to establish a "street cred" uses that term anymore.

But then again, I'm just an objectivist anti-social person who will stand aside while an elderly women gets raped and eat a bag of doritos while watching it.

While I'm glad Green got his bike back, the praise heaped on the "bike community" sounds a little naive. I can't help but wonder if the threat of mob violence prior to the arrival of police coerced the man into giving the bike back. The "bike community" I know isn't one that is known for it's peaceful attitude, it's filled with adrenaline junkies who have a chip on their collective shoulder and I've seen more fights in the streets with bike enthusiasts than any other group of people.

Go to your local precinct and try to register your bike- I tried three times and the officer in charge was always "on the phone" or "at lunch".

It's a good thing taxpayers subsidize the Alphabet City projects or we wouldn't have such wonderful examples of diversity enriching our lives!

#10 - the proof is that I got my bike stolen and that I recovered it from this mexican gang. I had the serial numbers registered, filed a police report, registered it with the police department and the receipt and pictures and proof of ownership as well as having a piece of paper with my name and number inside the handlebar. Registering your bike with the police is useless! They don't give a fuck! as long as the crooks scratch off the serial numbers you are screwed and they do that all the time! The proper police procedure is for the Officers to confiscate the bike and have both parties prove that the bike is theirs in a court of law but the pigs won't do that cause that's too much work for a 100-500 dollar bike. The police basically said I was shit out of luck and left me with the bike gang and said I had to resolve it on my own. I went to the Owner of Bully Deli and said if he didn't give my bike back I'd raise hell and blog all over town and to every newspaper that his place was a bastion of stolen bikes. bottom line is that bikes are stolen and there are no reprimands against these criminals. The guy who stole the pink bike not only got to ride it around on it for a couple months and have a story of how he duped the sucker but also got 50 bucks out of it. How's that for justice?

I find it amusing that the police made him buy his own bike back for $50. They really ought to start paying the cops more so they work a little harder.

I missed the original post, but people gave him shit for letting a stranger "try out" his bike, right? Hey Michael, can I try out your wallet? I just want to check the action on that bi-fold; I promise I'll give it back.

It's a good thing the cycling community is so tight knit; while they are most certainly tools, generally speaking this lot doesn't seem to be the sharpest tools.

The only reason he got it back was because the thief was almost as gullible as he was and, as Rocknrope wrote, too dumb to change the distinctive appearance of the bike. The next time, he'll be smart enough to repaint or better yet, part out the bike.

the real bicycling community = great
the internet bicycling community on forums laced with politics and bigotry = not so great

no one in their right junkie mind would buy a stolen bike for $100-$200 off the streets.
I just saw an Asian guy trying to sell a handtruck for $15 and a business owner tried to haggle him down to $10

Lucky bastard, I'm surprised that:

1) The thief didn't know better than to tape up/repaint the frame and the aerospokes

2) The thief's homies didn't tell the cycleboys to f off back to Williamsburg

I am telling you that there is a HUGE mexican Bike Thieve Ring. If you're bike is stolen, 99% of the time it's cause a mexican delivery guy saw your bike when it was outside and he was delivering food and then he called in his mexican friends with a van and powertools and they opened your locks and took your bike and then sold it to other mexican delivery guys for 100-200 bucks. Go to any deli and there are tons of bikes that are stolen and taped up. BULLY DELI on 8th street and Broadway is a good example. My bike was stolen and a week later I found it there all taped up and they scratched off my serial number. They have a ton of stolen bikes on their racks. If any of you guys are from critical mass or want to write an Expose on Stolen Bike rings I would suggest you start there. This will be a huge scoop for gothamist if you guys send reporters to bust down these everyday crimes that go unpunished. I mean they are basically stealing tons of bikes daily, scratching off the serial numbers and the police won't do a thing.
