Last Night's Action: Ouch!

2008_05_latroyha.jpg

  • Baltimore 10 Yankees 9 (11th inning): If you were looking for a situation where the Yankees lost a game they could have won with Joba in the bullpen, this was it. Then again, the Yankees have no excuse for losing this game. Up 4-0 and 8-4, New York couldn’t hold a lead and Baltimore tied things up at 8-8.

The Yankees took the lead in the 11th thanks to a clutch hit from Hideki Matsui, but Baltimore had last licks and Mariano had already thrown two innnings. That meant LaTroy Hawkins had to close the game and he couldn’t giving up not only the tying run, but the winning-one and now the Yankees will have to hope to avoid a sweep tomorrow.

  • Mets 5 Florida 3: Having Johan Santana in the rotation is a great way to stop a losing-streak and he delivered. Seven innings and seven strikeouts later, Santana had the win and the Mets had staved off the Willie “death watch” for another night.

ahem... mets won 5-3.

Hawkins has blown it two nights in a row.
He, along with Ian Kennedy, needs to spend a few weeks in beautiful downtown Wilkes Barre-Scranton.
