Why go to one of the many Apple stores in New York for your iPod when you can go to...Macy's? Racked is reporting that the department store is installing Apple vending machines, holding everything from iPods to Canon digital cameras to various accessories. (Perhaps the Macy's Pirate was looking to score some iPod booty in the Apple treasure chest last weekend.)
While the novelty is nice, there's no Genius Bar or glass staircase in a vending machine. And while the e-spots are touted as being "only at Macy's," there's been one at JFK airport (pictured) for some time now.

Will the IPods get stuck, like the candy bars do sometimes?

I've seen these in the Atlanta airport as well. It seems weird that a digital camera or an iPod might be considered an impulse purchase for some. Although if you're going on a long vacation and you realize you forgot your camera, I can see how this would be handy.
This is news? They've had this at the Downtown Brooklyn Macy's since last year.
... and at LAX.
They actually have one of these at the Super Stop & Shop in Northampton, MA.
...and the Staten Island Mall, for pete's sake.
Sorry, Gothamist! You are a bit behind the times. They have had one of these in the Macys in West Hartford, CT since it was still Filene's like 2 years ago.
have to jump on the bandwagon...also in the vegas and rome airports....
Saw one at a Sunoco in Schenectady..
seen it in '07 in Moosejaw, Saskatchewan...
Saw one at a Ground Round in Duluth at some point while Bush Sr. was president.
They've had one of these for a long time in the Macy's at the Queens Center Mall. Personally, if I was dropping $250 bucks on electronics I'd probably not want to get it out of a vending machine. But whatever...
