Driver in Fatal Brooklyn DWI Was High

2008_05_syringe.jpgAuthorities say 27-year-old driver of a Mercedes that fatally plowed into a 30-year-old woman crossing Brighton Beach Avenue over the weekend was on drugs at the time of arrest.

Police sources told the NY Post that Ronald Suriano "had just smoked a PCP-laced cigarette"; the Daily News' sources say he was "high on heroin." Suriano was traveling over the 30 MPH speed limit--the victim's friend said, "It had to have been over 100 mph." Apparently the victim was a recent immigrant from Eastern Europe, who came, per the Post, "to start a new life with her husband."

Police also reportedly found heroin and syringes in the car. He was charged with felony manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired (News).

And he'll probably get three, maybe four years, right?

if it was alcohol then yes.

Innocent people getting killed because of the selfish stupidity of others. Happens all the time, but still pisses me off.

Life in prison. Thank you.

I can't think of a worse time to light up a PCP-laced cigarette than when you're driving 100 MPH.

#5

I like the way you think

#5: Perhaps a family member or friend of yours will be killed someday soon in a similar fashion. Now wouldn't that be amusing?

It will be interesting to see how this case is sentenced compared to the drunk kid who killed the pretty Scottish woman.

Which is it, PCP or heroin? Yeah, it's such a great idea to legalize drugs so stoners can do all sorts of things while high.

#9: Alcohol is legal and drunk driving is not, yet people still do it. Yet drugs are illegal and yet obviously people still drive high. What's the connection here, do you think?

#7 drewo-
I was being completely serious, not trying to make light. Just saying that, I know people do stupid things but why would you do PCP while driving? Why not do it while you're hanging out on the couch or something? This guy should burn.

Even more reasons to give this piece of shit a fatal dose of nightstick. "It's ok, judge, we're field prosecuting this guy".
