  • Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a large fight on Springfield Blvd. in Queens, a suspicious person at the WTC PATH station in Manhattan, and shots fired at the Frederick Douglass Academy at 148th St. and 7th Ave. in Manhattan.
  • Just over a week after State Police Inspector Gary Berwick killed himself, a former State Police forensic scientist has also committed suicide.
  • The Parks Dept. will be planting a tree outside of the Windsor Terrace dry cleaning store in memory of Kyong-Sook Woo, who was murdered in her business last week.
  • A technological design flaw has left many gas pumps incapable of charging more than $3.99 a gallon for gas. Take advantage while it lasts.
  • Three men not wearing life jackets were rescued from the Lower Harbor after abandoning their sinking ship south of the Verrazano Bridge. An Army Corps of Engineers crew picked up two of the men and the third was rescued by a recreational boater.
  • The Wall Street Journal will be quitting its World Financial Center offices sometime next year to share space at the News Corp. building with New York Posties.
  • A man upset that he was refused a $500 loan at a Citibank branch, attempted to then rob the bank by threatening to blow it up. He was eventually caught using the accurate information he provided on his loan application.
