Subway Robber Suspect Arrested--And Says, "Sorry"

2008_05_macin.jpgA man suspected of a series of subway platform purse snatchings was arrested and charged yesterday. Mark McIntosh was "led away handcuffed by police near Union Square" and he offered these words to the public--and his six victims, "I'm sorry for what I did. I apologize, deeply."

According to police, MacIntoch was targeting women waiting for morning subways to feed his drug habit. He would grab their purses and then run into the subway tunnels to escape authorities. Victims picked him out of a line-up and he made remarks, per WNBC 4, "implicating himself" in the robberies at the L train stations on First and Third Avenues, the 1 station at Christopher Street, the 6 at Bleecker, and the R at Rector Street in Manhattan, plus one robbery at a G station in Brooklyn.

MacIntoch also said he didn't mean for his female victims to be hurt, "I just meant to take the money. That's all."

yes you are Asian, same with Babyhitler and rocknrope. snoopy is a old Jew.

  • Muscley Armed Paper Boy

    Jacque-

huh? you mean..wha? don't get it. I'm not asian (or was that the joke? oh well.)

I just hate it when people defend criminals who are obviously guilty. Who cares why they did it?

  • JacqueMehoff

you mean a separate section for Asian Posters,

    muscley armed cockless boi?

I thought he was caught due to his big mouth bragging at the homeless shelter?

  • berniegoetz

His name is Macintosh? I bet this is the only time we'll see Mr. PC stick up for him.

  • sonyactivision

Could have been worse, he could have been a "snatch purser".

  • aveB4life

where is al sharpton to his defense?

  • amsci

The South Park police sketches were right on the money too:

  • fakenewyorker

Relax, I was just messing with the guy.

  • Tgirl

[7] actually, police sketches are usually pretty good. Remember the dentist killed in the Rego Park playground?

The relative who they picked up for the murder was a DEAD RINGER for the sketch

    "engage in verbal jerk sessions"

pardon me, that was supposed to be verbal jerk-off sessions...

  • rtd2101

And relax, I'm not saying we should all forgive him b/c he's a drug addict.

He stole purses, he should do time. Plain and simple. I was just commenting on how crazy he looked/sounded on the video of him being led away.

Heel, Little Bill O'Reillys of Gothamist, heel.

And P.S.: By all means, get yourselves a private room where you can all engage in verbal jerk sessions of Jew-bashing, race-baiting and calls for Al Sharpton to apologize for everything from subway muggings to Jose Reyes striking out.

  • zodak

someone should have told him it's too late to apologize.

  • Anna_Merkin

MAP, they have a place like that. It's called Pennsyltucky.

  • jaycjay

"Just because he's black you think he's a drug addict?"

Uh, yeah... that's probably why. Probably has nothing to do with that statement in the linked article, "He is reportedly a drug addict and was stealing the cash to feed his addiction."

  • lanciano

Relax, the article states that he had a drug problem. Sheesh.

("what makes this a "boy's hat"?)

  • Muscley Armed Paper Boy

"You stupid little Carrie Bradshaw's, he probably deserves the money more than you."

    Aridginal-

Remember you said that when one of these dirty, drug addicted bums decides to cut your throat with a rusty soup lid. I don't need his life story, he is a criminal and will likely escalate to assault, then rape, then murder in the next couple decades. I would vote for execution, but I think maybe 20 years in the hole would do him some good.

Gothamist needs a "hippie-free" section of this site where people like me, edEx, babyhitler and matty can hang out.

  • fakenewyorker

Just because he's black you think he's a drug addict? You're racist Aridginal.

  • Aridginal

He's probably sorry that his addictions led him to do this, and he isn't happy about victimizing people but when you are in that condition your mentality changes, so maybe he is sorry.

You stupid little Carrie Bradshaw's, he probably deserves the money more than you.

  • "I'm sorry...

...But only because I got caught!"

  • matty

You know, for a minute I was thinking "I wonder what bh thinks about this? I would love to hear his insights on the subject"

And here you are! Illuminating us with your always suprising commentary on culture and society.

If you had a blog I would so read it everyday.

  • babyhitler

yeah blame it on drugs. don't blame it on the person that actually had to abuse the drugs in the first place.

  • Steven

They are always sorry after being caught.

  • Albert Sharpton

If this was a white brother that pleaded insanity, things would of been different. Obviously this arrest was biased, as is everything else here in the United States. No Justice! , No Jews!

  • rtd2101

I saw the video of this guy saying "I'm sorry". He doesn't seem to be all there mentally. Or maybe it was the yayo talking.

    "Cocaine's a hell of a drug"

  • BootyInMyEye

metro paper states a tipster fingered the suspect, presumably based on the sketch so it indeed can be a valuable tool.

you can bet if i saw a sketch that resembled a buddy of mine, i'd approach him ... and blackmail him to keep my mouth shut. stop snitching you say? buy me a wii and shut me up.

*assuming of course, his crimes were of a petty nature. i ain't going anywhere near a serial killer/rapist/assassin/priest etc.

  • Muscley Armed Paper Boy

I'm sorry that he'll be back on the street in a few months.

(psst Jen...is it McIntosh or MacIntoch?).

  • Anna_Merkin

I believe he's genuinely sorry. Unfortunately, his addiction is a cold, unfeeling bast@rd that will lead him to crime again. He needs to be locked up, but he also needs to voluntarily seek treatment - in the same way our celebrities get rehab and an "I'm sorry" with time served.

  • Politburo

He can stuff his sorries in a sack..

  • sakebalboa

    Well...more than usual I mean.

  • lanciano

Why do they even still use police sketched? Can they really be expected to produce accurate depictions based on vague witness descriptions? There are too many variables that would make one person's sketch completely different from another person's sketch.

Seems like the only point is to put some kind of face on the crime to comfort us and keep us from worrying about a mystery menace/phantom out to get us.

    Anyway, glad that's over with.

  • sakebalboa

This fucker is he the asshole thats been causing all the delays on the L trains ?

  • zodak

he apologized?! well, damn. they should let him go. he's sorry.

all is forgiven buddy, have a nice day.

  • amsci

Weeell... as much as I like Adam Ant, I'm pretty sure I'd still be very pissed off if my purse got stolen by a guy in a tricorner hat singing "da diddley qua qua."

  • meL

They're always sorry-- sorry they got caught.

How much time would he serve anyway for petty theft?

  • chuzzlewit

you gotta have more style to pull off this shit - make the ladies happy to be robbed by such a dashing bandit, you know? like adam ant did with the indian makeup and the old - timey pistols...
