No one I know uses the subway toilets... so if it's closed for 5 hours, it should be the same as usual. Will people save up their poop to go on the platform just for this special occasion? People are gross.

Time for the MTA to install automated single user bathrooms. Similar to the ones the NYC DOT is installing, like at Herald Square, except free. Some subway bathrooms still have prison stalls for the toilet. By prison stalls I mean, waist high wall, so if you sit on the toilet, you can see anyone who walks in, or uses the urinal, or sink. Also there is no door on this stall. Plenty of opportunity to see private parts. Only once in my life I saw someone crapping on a prison stall subway toilet. Also these prison stall toilets seem to be original to when the IND (subway) was built. Thats a interest sociology thought, that back in the 1920s/30s/40s when the IND was built, there was no need to have privacy walls in same sex bathrooms, no homophobia. I guess its the same attitude about same sex gym showers, you showered naked with everyone else of your gender. Nowadays same sex gym showers have bathroom toilet-style partitions with a lockable door. Times have changed. Also I saw prison stall toilets, because you can't have no-line-of-sight public area toilets in a prison (many toilets in a row, for example, yard toilets, or medium security dorm style housing toilets, i'm not talking about cell toilets), someone will be murdered/raped behind the door, or you won't see a rival gang member coming up to shank you on the toilet.

the gang on the bus - the turnbull a.c.'s they always kind of reminded me of a neo-nazi group but they weren't, because i believe there was at least one black guy in the gang. probably the bald head thing.

It's true, today they'd be unloading on each other with Uzi's and Tec-9s and the innocent bystanders would be dropping like flies. The Furies were kind of faggy too with all the makeup. The best were the guys who chased them with a bus. Funny how in the movies the subway's always there and the doors always close just as the good guys get on the train.

drewo: I was thinking the same thing this morning, except with an added twist: cleaning subway bathrooms from 12 to 5 AM = worst job ever. Also? People already piss on the subway platforms etc. About two months ago I was walking up a crowded subway platform at Grand Central and there was a man (not a homeless one either, not that that's any excuse) at the far end taking a leak in the corner (right near a door leading to a control room for the MTA). I yelled at him and told him he was disgusting. There are numerous (non-subway) restrooms in Grand Central - why the hell was he going on the platform? The lesson here is: it doesn't matter if there are bathrooms available or not: in the end, people who are gross are just going to keep on being gross and behaving like animals.

Doesn't matter to me. I piss on the toilet seats in Starbucks or the local Pizza places. I like to pee on the sink, the sink handles, and the toilet paper rolls too. If someone is waiting when I get out, I usually say "ugh! Disgusting! Some asshole pee'ed everwhere. I couldn't even get a paper to wipe it off!"

I always assumed that mostly homeless people use the subway bathrooms. I never have. If they close them from 12-5 get ready for serious poop on the platform. Can't they just close them during the time the cleaning crew is there? If people start defacating on the platforms they will have to clean that up too. Doesn't really add up.

the sign says to ask attendant for access. does that mean it's relatively safe? and I think it's the older people who need to go often so that needing to find a bathroom feeling may eventually hit any of us. unless you have on depends. being that Gothamist's demos are on the young side.

Isn't there a drug for BPH or Depends? I can't say that I've ever noticed a bathroom in the subway, but then again, I've never really thought to look for one. The whole idea of bathrooms in MTA stations is nasty, considering how disgusting some bathrooms in bars and coffee shops are.

You need to understand that ironworkers are all drunk on the job so when they need to go they really need to go. I've never been in one subway bathroom myself. Wasn't that scene from The Warriors the one with the faggy gang on roller skates? They were probably the least scary of all the gangs, even less so than the chicks with the gun or The Orphans.

In 34 years i have never stepped foot into a subway bathroom. Just the thought of using a terlet in the subway. blechhuggghhH! They are just not an option. I would rather develop a UTI than go into one of those places. I have it in my head that subway bathrooms are dangerous and/or disgusting and always make other arrangements.
