Is K-Rock Back? Or Are Their Backs Too Much?

K-Rock 92.3 FM has had some sexy, new billboards proclaiming its return to rock (it went talk for over a year) up, but one NJ town isn't thrilled. Enough Denville, NJ residents--and both men and women seemed skeptical of the ads--complained for Mayor Ted Hussa to request one billboard on Route 10 be taken down.

Hussa told WABC 7 that it's "back nudity...it's not the worst thing in the world...[but] we rather not see" these up. Wonder what Hussa would think of the American Apparel ads (1, 2).

Lucky for Denville the ads are scheduled to come down in the next few days. And for fans of the billboards, check out the 92.3 K-Rock website's section: K-Rock Billboard Girls.

Well, since Jersey IS the armpit of New York ...

Well, since Denville IS the armpit of Parsippany ...

ps the metallica chick is hot

WTF? Aside from the side boob action of the AC/DC and Pink Floyd girls, those billboards are not overly sexual at all.

Are the NJ residents part of the Taliban and think that showing a little bit of shoulder is a sin punishable by public stoning (the bad kind, not the good kind [bud])?

Is anyone really bothered by the appearance of Eric Ripert the chef on those nyc ads on gothamist?

I would take them down before they cause a huge pile-up.... just don't know if they'd fit on my apartment...

Based on what Gothamist has written here, they seem to have gone about this the reasonable and respectable way. They didn't act as if this is the most important issue facing our times; they spoke to their elected officials; their elected officials spoke on behalf of their constituents. They didn't say that it was wrong or that it should be banned entirely. They said they'd prefer not to see it in their town.

Not everything needs to be a fight; not everyone who disagrees needs to be ridiculed or labeled Taliban.

#8 - and then afterwards we can dance to rainbows and butterflies!

See, the folks in NJ got the inside scoop on these ads. In order to truly portray the essence of Classic Rock, those girls are actually pooping. (The model who was chosen as "Pink Floyd girl" had her work cut out for her, making it an extra large and messy BM.) The black logo was slapped on there to salvage the ad and make it usable.

Of course, for the average Gothamist comments reader, this just makes it that much hotter.

Opie (of Opie & Anthony) had it right. These billboards are getting attention. One way or another.

Good for them.

They should take it out of Jersey and put it up on the apartment building across the street from my place. They can just cover up the windows since I never see any good action there anyway.

KROCK still sucks no matter how many times they overhaul it!

foo fighers = poo biters

89.1 wnyu or 89.5 pirate radio for teh win!

People are completely entitled to their opinions and to try to have things changed within their communities by doing things the 'right' way. In the same way, I'm entitled to use exaggerated imagery (Taliban) as a joke to shine the light on these people's Puritanical crap. That's all.

Oh Yeah its back! I missed those days, i think a few more people would agree. We needed it back - when video game soundtracks (GTA)are killing over FM radio - theres a problem.

Hopefully they can get back some of whats has been lost across new york radio in the recent years - I mean, remember radio stations in the 90's....

Agreed dkim, Seton Hall's radio is the only thing worth while watching.

"People are completely entitled to their opinions and to try to have things changed within their communities by doing things the 'right' way. In the same way, I'm entitled to use exaggerated imagery (Taliban) as a joke to shine the light on these people's Puritanical crap. That's all." - Cowboys

In the same way that I'm entitled to be sick of people being insulting to those who dare to disagree with them.

Anyway, here's to hoping that K Rock is worth having back!

forget this ad campaign, it's still the old Krock
and it still sucks.
here's their male oriented playlist (same as before),
foo fighters, metallica, red hot chili peppers,
some other yelling thrashing singer band,
maybe some smashing pumpkins, and of course, the
ultimate in male whiteness, the beastie boys.
along with the artists on the backs, same difference.

I can't believe they jettied Ron & Fez for this nonsense. Bring back the radio buddies!

It's just a dumb idea... they're "Back" - and the girls are nude. Haw haw. How can we make up something so we can stick naked chicks on a billboard. It's boring.

They should make the campaign, "We're Front and Center." Then they can show boobs.

do these jersey residents have a problem with the Manhattan Storage ads that show much more than the K-ROCK ads?

They should show the girls' vaginas. That would mirror K Rock's brand and New Jersey all at the same time.

K Rock blows...the playlist is so fricken 1993 it's unbelievable...

Cookies and milk anyone?

Look at the stuff you buy and buy into. Its not any different than these ads. Get real.

Radio is garbage anyway. Who wants to hear the same songs over and over again with a lame fake DJ talking?

The town of Denville is filled with a bunch of assholes anyway. I live in Mine Hill, which is up further than Denville but we have the same billboard in town on Rt. 46. My friends and I could care less bout the billboard cause we see girls around this county that look more skanky than the chicks in the billboard. K-ROCK has been sucking since the new millenium and can't believe they haven't change formats yet. If you want to hear good rock music and real DJs that know their shit. I highly recommend 105.5 WDHA my friends. LONG LIVE ROCK AND ROLL!

Still can't believe people listen to radio.

A zillion bands out there and they rotate through the same outdated/ crappy 20 songs with hour-long commercials between each 3 --- Chinese water torture.
