More Stuff Buried Under Yankee Stadium

2008_05_ortizjerseyBaseball is full of superstitions. Some pitchers don't step on the foul lines. Some announcers don't say the phrase "no-hitter" or "perfect game" while a pitcher is working on them. And some rogue construction workers just keep on burying Red Sox artifacts in the new Yankee Stadium. The same guy who buried the (fake) David Ortiz jersey now says he buried an official scorecard from the 2004 American League Championship Series, the best-of-seven playoff round in which the Red Sox rallied from a 3-0 deficit.

After all the attention paid the Ortiz jersey -- the Yankees dug it up with great fanfare -- why wouldn't Gino Castignoli bury something else there? But he allegedly did this last summer, well before the Ortiz jersey nonsense got press attention.

If the Yankees keep reacting to stories like this one, they'll keep getting reactions. They should treat Castignoli like a child trying to attract attention in the backseat of a car: ignore him and he'll probably go away. Also, how much time is this guy spending burying stuff and how much time is he spending on true construction? As for the Yankees, they should just forget about it. Besides, Castignoli isn't saying where he buried the scorecard and it's probably really hard to find a piece of paper in concrete.

Does this guy think he's ever going to get hired for another construction project? He should keep his mouth shut considering that any provocations on his part are likely to result in legal action by the Yankees related to the costs of removing the Ortiz jersey.

Meanwhile, from the Times: "Ortiz had a poor start this season, but he has raised his average 180 points and hit nine home runs since the jersey was unearthed."

So they should just leave whatever where it is. Buried under the stadium is a good place for that scorecard.

"Besides, Castignoli isn't saying where he buried the scorecard and it be really hard to find a piece of paper."

Are pirates now doing the reporting for Gothamist?

That is exactly what this d-bag is, a child. Who cares? This guy clearly just wants attention. He noticed the show the media put on for the jersey and the attention he received. His 15 minutes are up and now he is like "I need to get back in the spotlight.....oh yeah I buried a piece of paper." Get serious. What's next one of Manny's tampons?

bring back steve balboni

How do we know the guy's not full of shit and looking to get a sixteenth minute?

People like this would rather be insulted than ignored. So just ignore him.

Pressing charges of destruction of property against Gino Castignoli would be a whole lot easier than bitching about it.

I'm telling you, bury Castignoli somewhere in the new stadium. I'm sure nobody would care enough to unearth him.

Yes, press charges and then bury this idiot somehwere in Yankee Stadium-- then tell his family it's really hard to find a brainless body in concrete.

That guy's an idiot who wants to get smacked with the bill for digging up the shirt...

How has this guy not been fired from this job?

i think i read that this guy was mobbed up. that might explain why he isnt worried about being barred from future 'construction' jobs.

well, if you're a union construction worker working out of the hall, it's almost impossible to be barred from any construction jobs. there's a pool of workers that companies are supposed to draw from. so even if you're the worst employee ever, you'll be hired for one day before you're laid off.

they could bury a whole bag of boston uniforms under yankee stadium and it still won't matter; boston sucks now and forever.

I think they need to start all over again... knock it down and rebuild it (cause I wouldnt mind seeing another year in the house that Ruth Built!) and maybe that'll give the yanks a fair shoot a winning season in the new home too (cause next year isnt looking any better then this one - everyone is just another year older!)
