Vito Fossella Greets Public at S.I. Parade

2008_05_fossellapar.jpgRepresentative Vito Fossella, whose public image has taken a battering after a DWI arrest and admitting to having a girlfriend and toddler in Virginia, was out and about at the Great Kills Memorial Day Parade yesterday. The Advance says he "was cheered, hugged, kissed on the cheek and had supporters jockeying to shake his hand."

Fossella's friend State Senator Andrew Lanza said, "This is an unprecedented outpouring of warmth and support." However, Staten Islanders had mixed reviews: The Daily News spoke to one supporter who said, "We love him, and we're behind him" while another resident said "I don't understand why everyone feels bad for this guy. He cheated on his wife. I'm a Republican, and I wouldn't vote for him again."

And the Post suggests Fossella's indiscretions date back to Fordham Law School: Though he was married to high school sweetheart Mary Pat Rowan at the time, Fossella allegedly told people he wasn't married and had a relationship with a classmate.

Christ, my sister was going to Fordham at the same time. Thank god this asshole was in Lincoln Center X number of miles and subway stops away from her!

Drunk driving is worse than
his affairs of the heart or is that
the Genitals?

This is no big shocker. He was in a local parade in the neighborhood he and his family live in. They are part of that community. He might have a different reaction in other parts of Staten Island. Odds are he wouldn't march in those parades and he certainly wouldn't march in the sections of Brooklyn he represents.

Before he was elected to Congress, Fossella was on the City Council representing Staten Island. As a member of City Council, Fossella advocated the installation of a major waste transfer station in residential Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. So there is no love for him in that community.

Both Fossella's father and uncle are large developers in Staten Island which has some of the tackiest-looking new housing in the city. Fossella is clever and talks a good line, but what has he actually done for his constituents?

From now on, all above-ground swimming pools in Staten Island shall be referred to as "Fossellas".

Vito's wife kicked him out of their Todt Hill mansion and he is now crashing at his sisters house living in two small rooms above her garage.
True story.

The very fact that he thinks Staten Islanders (and some Brooklynites) would send him back to Congress is a real honest to God insult to those people.

At the moment, he wins the Guiliani award for the politician most in need of a good ass-kicking (politically, of course).
