John McCain Returns to Saturday Night Live

Last night, Senator and presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain made a pair of appearances on Saturday Night Live. The first was a campaign commercial, emphasizing that America needs a really old, old, old, old President. But the other was more hilarious--during Weekend Update (video above), McCain urged Democrats not to pick a candidate any time soon--"take every possible second" to weigh their pros and cons.

And SNL did offer up a Barack Obama/Hillary Clinton commercial (below) that highlighted their similarities and differences:

McCain appeared on Saturday Night Live as a host in 2002 (musical guest, The White Stripes). And Lorne Michaels donated $2,300 to McCain's campaign last year.

Lorne Michaels is a republican? What a shocker. I'm sure his pal Don Ohlmeyer gave generously as well. If only they could donate to SNL to find some talent and some humor...

I know who will be president in 2009. It's John McCain. I also know who will be president in 2010. It will be John McCain's Vice President. The dude is gonna die soon. he's so old.

When politicians try to appear hip by showing up comedy shows, such as SNL or The Daily Show, more often than not, they appear foolish.
McCain's first bit was just plain dumb, while the second bit was more clever.
But none of these appearances, and this goes for Clinton and Obama, too, seem presidential to me.
