WNBC is 4 Sue Simmons

Newsday's Verne Gay reports WNBC 4 "released another statement" today that apologizes for Sue Simmons' unexpected f-bomb during a Monday night promo. Gay believes the statement is "designed to dash media speculation that Simmons' 28-year tenure was imperiled by the outburst." Here's the statement:

"Sue Simmons is a highly valued 30-year veteran of WNBC. Sue, along with WNBC, remains deeply sorry for her offensive remark on Monday night for which she quickly apologized. It was an unfortunate mistake that she truly regrets."
Simmons was unhappy with the Post for implying she was drinking between shows; via e-mail, she told the tab, "I haven't had an alcoholic drink between shows for at least 15 years or more...I understand more now why many people don't trust the media."

She also confirmed the theory she and fellow anchor Chuck Scarborough thought their promo was being taped: "I got caught on air dropping the F-bomb. I thought we were taping a spot . . . turns out it was very live." And fellow newscasters are coming to her defense--Soup Cans writes that on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Brian Williams used "a few f-words of his own," calling her "fantastic" and a friend, and called it "a mistake."

  • in fact, i'm almost sure SNL will make a reference and may even say "FUCK" on the air.

  • ChampionOfTheSun

Anyone who complains because they heard the word "fuck" seriously needs to get laid.

Everything on TV these days resvolves around fucking, so why not be able to say the word?

Let her and Chuck swill out the evening paranoia until they drop dead. We need more government shills.

I agree with #11. Americans are like 3rd graders sometimes, snickering about swear words or wardrobe malfunctions at the Super Bowl halftime show. Grow up! In Europe this wouldn't even raise an eyebrow.

Hopefully this is the last time we heard of this story.

It's time to move on. It's really no big deal.

  • Ethan

I got yer Marmota monax right here.

  • The only thing worth watching on NBC is Conan and SNL.

As per my (great) link, the FCC commissioners with sticks up their asses still there from the 1930's still give a fuckity fuck. Granted the news may not be the best place for it, but most regular programming should be alright imo.

Whatever...who's offended by that word? Who even deterimine's that it's a bad word to begin with? At the very core of it's definition, it represents one of the best-feeling moments of the human condition and so far is the best word to use to convey pure emotion when there's no other word at hand. But regardless, this is fucking New York. Not some puritanical suburb. Let's keep it that way.

After 30 years, this lady can say anything she wants.

Much ado about nothing. Sue & Chuck are NBC. I knew she's been around forever, but didn't think she's 64.

  • Kojak

NBC4 wouldn't be the same without Sue Simmons. I'd love to read the complaint letters coming in because of this.

At least she didnt flash a titty

  • BellG

Sue Simmons is solid, people. Back off.

  • Art Stewel

Fire her. Not because she said the word fuck. But because she sucks.

    Bring back Jack.
