Upper East Side Moments

What could make these people stop and take photos at First Avenue and 88th Street today?

Why a raccoon stuck in a tree! We imagine the critter survived his arboreal adventure when he was rescued by the proper responders (but the police were called).

raccoons don't get stuck in trees... they climb them to get away from assholes who like to take pictures.

jebus. get out of the city every now and then, people. you might even see mythical creatures such as cows, horses and sheep. be sure to bring your cameras!

That's probably true--the raccoon is hounded like a celebrity by the paparazzi.

poor raccoon... i wonder why it was wandering around during the daytime. maybe something bad happened.

lol, "rescued." The little bastard will most likely be euthanized.

Yeah #4 (and FYI #1)

Raccoons are nocturnal
If a Raccoon is out in the daytime it means it is sick and possibly rabid
Animal Control needs to contacted immediately for its safety and yours

ONLY IN NEW YORK! LOL!

Are we sure that isn't Nicole Richie is a fur coat?

I'm a bit surprised to see a racoon there, but I see them almost every time I'm in Central Park after dark.

jt10000 - Have you considered staying a shelter?

Send Sue Simmons over. maybe she could lure it down with her groundhog puss.

You can basically drink at the bar on the corner there, Phil Hughes, 24 hours a day. Also, good health food store across the street.

I put some shirts out to dry on my fire escape last year and a raccoon stole them.

then it about killed my cats.

fun stuff.

They put him down. They should have just left the critter alone TO LIVE HIS LITTLE LIFE.

Bastards!

spiritross - raccoons are sometimes active during the day and a raccoon seen in daylight does not automatically mean rabies... it's misinformation like this that led the cops to over-tranquilize it and kill it for no good reason. if it was foaming of the mouth or stumbling around that would be one thing, but it looks like it was just scared and up a tree.

this time of year raccoons out during the day is normal they are foraging for their young usually in no way does it mean they are rabid-
