This past Saturday, one of the Obama posters Shepard Fairey added to the cityscape was taken down by graffiti writer MARTY -- who Razor Apple reports "has been holding down that corner for years."
The Obama poster is on the corner of Houston and Bowery, and reportedly Shepard was apologetic for pasting over another writers work, but added, “however, I feel Obama being elected is very important to everyone’s future including MARTY’s. It was not intended to be disrespectful of him, but if he chooses to be that small minded and petty about it I can’t control that. I certainly would expect him to justly re-claim the spot after the election.” At any rate, Obama supporters reversed the tagged Fairey piece soon after, and buffed off MARTY's new work.
Meanwhile, very south of Houston, Obama didn't run into many supporters in West Virginia at the primary, but he's still considered a lock for the nomination. Obama's new puzzle: Figuring out how to nicely get Hillary Clinton to step off the campaign trail.

You have evidence of three people committing vandalism. Why aren't they being reported to the police department?
This just proves that Fairey has no more street cred. Dude's been holding the corner down for years and you just put an Obama piece up? Not cool.
Shhh... or they'll start posting Momofuku articles again.
not important to everyone else's future except his own, if it was so important he would be printing up those posters for free, handing them out for free, putting them online for free, giving out stickers for free, and making the effort to paste em up on a blank surface without dissing anybody else's work no matter how toy it is.
look like hes also jocking & sweating that KH spot, or Zone TCT's spot, or OMNI 156's spot...
marty is wack anyway and jocking the spot just as hard.
Shep is a bitch also, reclaim the spot after the election! what a joke, he dont own any spots in the graff world or on the streets of ny unless hes ready to knuckle up for it!
jaja: you are a tool and a twat.
the rest of you are wiggers.
That corner is my property. I'll see the 3 of you in Billboard Court.
Mat Gleason is an art critic, writer, and publisher...
"compared Fairey's art to advertisments for Coca-Cola, saying; "They're both on the street, they're both promoting a brand, and at the end of the day, it's a very empty experience." Gleason went on to say that, "I think that the art experience is to raise someone's consciousness, and at the end of the day the Shepard Fairey experience is to promote the brand of Shepard Fairey as a corporate entity, so I don't consider it art. He is about the furthest thing from art there is..."

Graffiti wars. What else can you expect from people who have no respect for anybody else's property? Hope it turns ugly, with drive-by taggings. I suppose it'd be too much to hope for that it turn violent.
The is the stupidest thing I have ever read.
He should throw up some Obama work himself. Remember when street art used to be a weapon? Save the tags for your study hall Trapper Keepers...

So an artist shouldnt be able to try and make money off their art? thats pretty stupid.
And I am in no way educated in the graf world and dont know MARTYs work, but it doesnt look like there was anything too special that the poster is covering up.
they should just put a starbucks on that corner and move on.
I don't understand these bitches who cry "vandalism" every time they see graffiti in NYC. Why don't you just move to Portland?
Graffiti is this city's single greatest contribution to the global culture, and probably to life in general.
Besides, it's the most harmless way of keeping the property values down and jerks with too much money away from this greatest city on Earth.
Matty says:
"The is the stupidest thing I have ever read."
Agreed.
matty, i'll join (the lovely i'm sure) vanessa and say that i wholly concur.
Yeah, because Obama's mug on a dirty wall is really going to change people's lives.
Whatever.
ChuckD!---> a big word up on that!!!!!!
Graffiti is this city's single greatest contribution to the global culture, and probably to life in general.
dont forget breakdancing!
and old skool rap, not todays version, that bling bling look at this bitch shaking her booty in front of my Lambo crap...
Chubby---> making $$$ is not the issue, the real issue is this hyper vigilance of and over sensationized of psuedo street art / graffiti phenonemon that is centralized around canal st to 14th street and a few blocks around the Bedford Ave. L stop., usually the same art stars like swoon and neckface, before the advent of digital photography and flickr accounts, you had to know spots now all it takes is a camera and a blog and you become a artstar photographer when in reality before the disneyfication of nyc these bozoz would have had their asses kicked and their cameras snatched. obey giant is not graffiti and never was, he is a commdity in which thousands if idiots worldwide glamorize his art thats not really art, i cant take any odl picture crop it, run a photoshop filter on it and put a witty phrase or name, wheate paste em enough around town and all of a sudden im famous, keep giving out stickers and stencils and all of a sudden you have morons who think they are part of something cool, keep on going and you know what....you want to see something really
stoopid...
no really beyond the scope of comprehension,
there are assholes who actually get obey giant tats!!! can you believe it!

remember when Shepard Fairey had to restrain himself against the "splasher" and he was yelling at him for vandalizing his work? Crow meet Fairey's mouth.
"What else can you expect from people who have no respect for anybody else's property?"
Which is exactly why they support a crypto-socialist like Obama.

That's got to be one of the most rediculous things I've ever seen claimed about New York.
Frankly, the whole thing about one tagger 'holding down' a corner just seems completely rediculous, there's suddenly rules for the 'break the rules' act that is graffiti?
Let me know when the first Graffiti Artists' Union is established so I can weep for the human race and then shoot myself.
If they want that spot, they pay rent for it. End of fucking story.
