The Norwegian Cruise line issued a statement about the New Jersey woman who went missing from the Norwegian Dawn ship on Sunday night: "Initial reports indicate that the 46-year-old woman was attempting to climb from one exterior balcony on deck nine to the adjoining balcony (on deck nine) and subsequently fell overboard. NCL is cooperating fully with authorities who are investigating the cause of the incident."
The ship had left NYC and was headed to Bermuda (it's expected to arrive there today). The woman, Mindy Jordan, a nurse, had been with her boyfriend Jorge Caputo. Caputo called Jordan's mother, saying she fell over a railing and that he tried to save her. But mother Louise Horton told WCBS 2 that her daughter was in an abusive relationship and detailed the call she got:
"He said, 'We were just clowning around and she was messing around and she accidentally fell,'" she said. "I said, 'Are you trying to tell me she is dead?' He said yes. I said, 'And where are you?' He said, 'The Coast Guard released the ship and I'm on my way to Bermuda.'"Jordan's father added the story about her climbing between balconies was ridiculous, "That would be totally out of character. She was 4-foot-10, weighed about 98 pounds. She wouldn't go near a rail, this fellow beat her a couple of times."
The family says it was told the authorities would not resume its investigation until the ship comes back to New York.

Nice- Real Nice...
Let see of the 'boyfriend' can pass a good interview the detectives of the NYPD.
I don't think anyone will be fooling the professionals of the NYPD Detective Bureau...
And in the second place- what is this woman doing on a cruise ship to Bermuda with an 'abusive' boyfriend?!
I don't think the NYPD will get involved, because the boat was in the ocean...? right?
That's why so many crimes happen on cruise ships, because they are in "international waters" typically and the investigations are slim to nil.
Are you frakking kidding me? Yeah, they'll investigate, all right, but this Caputo character will be halfway to Patagonia by then.
The FBI is investigating. The boat was in international waters but because it originated at a US port, iirc, there is jurisdiction.
geeze, what a lame story this guy came up with...but proving that is something else, unless cameras or phone logs or whatever the cops can find out can somehow undermine the "wheres" and "whens" of his story.
Darwin Award!
Darwin Award!
What, are you trying for one? You're already well on your way.
The guy's guilty as sin. If my girlfriend fell overboard, I wouldn't continue my trip to Bermuda. I can just imagine him now. "Eh. She's gone. What am I supposed to do, ruin my trip? It's not refundable!"
This is sad in many respects. The fact that she remained in an abusive relationship could only have one eventual outcome.
I happen to think the woman fell. The parents - like most parents - can never accept that they raised a doofus daughter who would do stupid thinks like swinging from the rails as if she was on the trees of Africa.
I've seen plenty of stupid adult tricks. Just walk along the East River long enough, and you'll see them yourself.
She thought she was invincible, then fell to her death.
As I said - Darwin Award!
This has to be the best way to get rid or your spouse -- get her on a cruise ship and toss her off the balcony. And you don't have to say shit to anyone. Fuck the wonderful NYPD detectives. Even if they know you did it they still have to prove it.
Here, this is me "passing" an interview with the professionals of the NYPD Detective Bureau:
Detective: What happened to your wife?
Me: [.....silence......]
"climbing between balconies" That's what they always say. If there was a tally of every cruise ship passenger who died "climbing between balconies" Mike Wallace would be out there haranging balcony engineers.
