- Rays 7, Yankees 1: The days of dominating the Rays are over, or at least on hiatus. Matt Garza shut down the inconsistent Yankees lineup in the first game of a four-game series. Andy Pettitte allowed five runs in four innings. Four of those came in the third. For the rest of his outing, the veteran lefty looked OK. He struck out five and walked two, so his peripheral stats suggest he deserved better. The Yanks' offense -- not so much. The top five hitters went 1-for-17 -- Derek Jeter got the lone hit -- with two walks. Chien-Ming Wang pitches Tuesday.
- Nationals 10, Mets 4: Despite scoring in each of the first three innings, the Mets found themselves on the short end of a rout. That's because the Nats scored in each inning from the second through the sixth, including a three-run fifth and four in inning No. 6. Nelson Figueroa had his worst start of the season, walking five and getting chased after five innings. He got touched up by opposing pitcher Odalis Perez, ex-Met Lastings Milledge and catcher Jesus Flores, who was Mets property until Omar Minaya let him go in the Rule 5 draft following the 2006 season. Figueroa also wasn't pleased with some antics in the Nats dugout, but he probably wouldn't have been so peeved had he not pitched and fielded so poorly.
