The Brooklyn Flea?? It's a joke of a flea market, unless you're looking for clever silkscreened baby clothes and expensive refurbished tin ceiling crap (which you can buy in their stores on both coasts!). I love the Housing Works thrift shops for clothes, art, and furniture. For dresses I hit up Filenes and Loehmanns. Shoes at DSW. For jewelry it's usually street vendors. And yes, Target for almost everything else.

@Steven - is the Target in Marble Hill any different than any other Target? It's usually well stocked and cleaner than the other targets in the city.

I usually get a hefty consulting fee for this... The Brooklyn Century 21. Everything is marked down even more from the Manhattan one, and it is 1/100th of the zoo that place is. You can try things on without having to participate in the Lower Manhattan Bargain Rodeo Euro-Karate 2-Step If you hit it on a weekday after work, it's like being in Barney's, minus the bender inducing guilt. Then walk 5 blocks to Tanoreen for the best Middle Eastern Food in the City (Even the stuffy Zagat folks think so). BYOB.

I love the cheap produce on the streets in Chinatown. 10 bucks goes a looong way! For clothes, I'm a fan of H&M.

the barney's warehouse sale is pretty good. sample sales can be hit or miss, but usually worth checking out.
