Baby Found Abandoned on Queens Stoop

Around 10 p.m. last night, a Flushing resident heard crying outside her house and opening her front door to find a baby girl on the steps. The baby, wrapped in a blanket, appeared to be one month old. And next to the infant was a black handbag.

Authorities took the baby to Flushing Medical Center, where she is in stable condition. It's believed the Holly Avenue home was chosen at random.

Under the Safe Haven Act, babies can be left at places like hospitals, firehouses, and police stations without the parents facing charges. In February, a livery cab driver brought a baby to a firehouse, claiming the father had abandoned it in his cab, but it turned out the driver knew the father.

Rocknrope, you were right all along. It was a chinese woman who abandoned her girl. I don't expect Jen Chung to follow up on this story, for obvious reasons - although its a top news story on TV and the papers.

I didn't know what race the mother was. I was very shocked. LOL.

The mother belongs in prison, and the child's race or picture needs to be released so it can help identify the criminal mother and send her to prison (or deported) where she belongs.

Ha, I knew it. Assuming that the woman is some illegal immigrant. Given your previous racist posts, I'm not surprised. Your idea that a newborn's picture would help identify the mother shows you're dumb as a box of hammers.

Rocknrope, if the mother followed the law, she would have left the child in the designated safe haven areas. She decided to leave this girl abandoned like an old newspaper in the middle of nowhere.

#3, It would help catch the mother? I don't think the mother needs to be caught, per the safe haven rule. And how exactly would it help catch her? "Hey, it's an Asian baby, now, let's round up all asian women in Flushing..."

Admit it, you just want to know what race the baby is to reinforce stereotypes of mothers who abandon their children.

I wonder why the news organizations won't identify the race of the abandoned baby in Flushing - or at least release a picture of the baby like they did in other cases.

It would help catch the mother quicker if they did.
