Hmmm. I'm going to respectfully disagree. I think this is an amazing original piece with an exceptionally talented cast. It is a brilliant, stark reminder that we don't have to like characters to identify with them and the experiences they encounter. I believe that thsi musical has attracted a lot of positive attention because it is NOT a treacly musical pandering to the usual tastes, and the subject of man vs. machine, though "done to death", has never been done so honestly and so faithfully to Rice's vision. I came to the show dreading the possible dourness, and saw a show that blew me away with it's originality and dark perspective. See it.
