Last Night's Action: The Yankees Finally Beat The Tigers

Yankees 5 Detroit 2: It’s only two starts, but Darrell Rasner has given the Yankees exactly what they needed, quality pitching. Rasner was impressive on Saturday, holding one of the more dangerous lineups in the league to only two runs and four hits over six innings. Most importantly, he didn’t beat himself, issuing only one walk.

Derek Jeter got things going with a solo shot in the first and was one of five different Yankees to drive in a run. Kyle Farnsworth worked into and out of trouble in the seventh and Joba and Mo took care of business in the eighth and ninth to seal the victory. The only bad thing for the Yankees was Wilson Betemit’s hamstring injury which will put him on a very crowded disabled list.

Mets Split A Pair: The Mets played a split-admission doubleheader on Saturday, winning the first game 12-6 behind a workmanlike start from Johan Santana. New York was paced by a 5-RBI game from Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado’s 3-for-4 day. In the nightcap, the Reds struck back with a 7-1 win. Bronson Arroyo was brilliant for Cincinnati and the Mets bullpen and some bad defense turned a close game into a blowout.

Red Bulls 2 Los Angeles 1: The Galaxy tied up a rough game in the 77th minute, but Juan Pablo Angel put the Red Bulls back up on top just a minute later with his first goal of the season. New York turned away several chances in the final minutes and stoppage time to seal the win.
