I agree, Slappy, but the reason that Fossella's douchebag moves are relevant is the fact that he painted himself as a good Catholic and a family-values kind of guy. It's a classic "Do as I say, not as I do" bullshit argument. Leaders should lead by example. If the people making the laws refuse to follow them (DUI) and then espouse family values, saying gays shouldn't marry and abortion should be outlawed, while fucking around on their wife and fathering a child out of wedlock, then it's an issue. If Fossella did not claim to be a Catholic and espouse these family values, it would be a lesser issue. Unfortunately, he has proven himself to be a massive hypocrite and thus the media is going to hone in on it (somewhat justifiably).

If there was more expose about what they are doing that really affects all of us, it might be more interesting. But I don't really care about their personal lives. Ben Franklin contracted syphilis. Poor guy. So what.

Fossella really went against stereotype. Instead of using some 22-year-old cocktail waitress and aspiring model for his mistress, he chooses a retired military officer in her 40's, who's actually older than he is.
