THEATER: A stellar cast – including Elizabeth Marvel, Martha Plimpton, and Marisa Tomei – has come together for a revival of Caryl Churchill’s Top Girls. First presented in New York in 1982, the adventurous play throws together famous female historical figures like the 9th century’s Pope Joan at an anachronistic power lunch in act one, headed up by the contemporary female director of an employment agency. Ben Brantley says the uneven play has virtuoso moments that are held together “with zeal and finesse by a starry cast.” But don’t take his word for it – the Times is now getting a mouthful from audience members as they leave the theater; take a listen. – John Del Signore
