Turning Point in Democratic Presidential Nomination?

With yesterday's primaries giving Barack Obama decisive win in North Carolina and Hillary Clinton a much smaller-than-expected/ needed victory in Indiana, many are wondering if it's the beginning of the end for the Clinton campaign. Example: The video (above) of NBC's Tim Russert proclaiming last night that "we now know who the nominee will be."

The NY Times reports one Clinton adviser describing the campaign as "essentially broke." At one point late last night, it was reported Clinton was canceling her public appearances today--perhaps to regroup and reflect--but now she will be making them in West Virginia, where 39 delegates are up for grabs during next week's primary.

Politico says it does not seem as though Clinton's gas tax holiday brought her extra support. And Newsweek's Jonathan Alter writes that Obama's criticism of the gas tax holiday was a "huge gamble" that "paid off," "In the end Obama showed the kind of resilience that was supposed to apply only to the Clintons.

I have it on good authority that Hillary's piss smells exactly like cat's piss!

I had to level the field after your Post-Sean Bell screeds, Vanessa. I believe you said it was in the best interest of ALL New Yorkers to be angry at the verdict. Megalomania much? If angry white males only speak for themselves, at least that makes me the sane one between us.

Thanks, Matty. Yep. Even if you could vote for St. Obama 1,000,000 yourself, you still won't be cool in the way you want to be, whiteboy.

I think bernie goetz has outed himself as a bitter white man.

  • matty

I love bernie goetz's angry white male routine.

I love that McCain spent last weekend eating popcorn and watching the Diamondbacks. He doesn't even need to make hints at his VP nom or make any other gestures to keep his name in the press. Obama will be TROUNCED in the general election and I will laugh my ass off when he crawls back to Chicago in search of a new church and new racist cronies to feed his ivory tower agenda.

  • zodak

she's rich enough to lend her campaign 6 million.

  • NYer

Hillary is flailing and it's not pretty.

  • Kojak

The Clintons made $100 Million over the course of 7 years. They're not THAT rich

  • Politburo

zodak: Except that exit polling data shows that Operation Chaos only has an effect on the size of Rush Limbaugh's head. GOPists went 53-47 for Clinton in Indiana. Statistically, that's a wash.

  • bklynd

Speaking of those loans - the Clintons made $100 mil last year. Why not just pay flat-out for part of your campaign? "OK contributors, I'm going to front you this money so I can spend it all on attack ads, but I want it back!"

Of course, there is probably some technical campaign-finance reason.

Hillary is going to be perceived as the new Joe Lieberman figure, now.

Yeah, a "huge gamble" not supporting a retarded idea. Maybe us humans haven't devolved into plankton-heads after all?

  • Politburo

Well, it only took Russert a few months to figure out what the rest of us already knew. But he's getting better! It took years for him to figure out Iraq...

  • zodak

she's only lasted this long because of: operation chaos

  • rodney

Please go away you horrible horrible person. I actually voted for you twice for Senator of NY. Now I will never vote for you for any elected office ever again. Your race-baiting, dirty, Rovian/Nixonian campaigning that grew out of your insatiable desire for power at all costs has turned you into a monster. Please look in the mirror and then go hide for the rest of your life.

    Sincerely,

    The Universe

  • matty

I wonder if she's going to loan herself another 6.4 million

  • petebfd

seriously, every day she stays in the race just hurts the democratic party

  • Dirk

Time for Clinton to pack it in and get behind Obama. The democrats need to start getting ready for the general election.

  • zodak

    oba-mowned!

  • eyekantspel

Will someone please let Hillary know that she lost? She's been in denial for a couple of months now.
