The selection of Microsoft compatible products (hardware, software, operating systems) is far,far greater than Apple. You cannot hope anyone they hire could help you with all these options and combinations. Unless they limit their store offerings, I cannot see how this would work.

But a Commerce Bank branch would be more appropriate than this classic space.

"What makes the Apple stores unique is that they have people there to help you with your purchases (support-wise)."

Maybe it's just me but I can't get the time of day at an Apple store. I've walked out twice with credit card in hand.

Microsoft might as well open in a bank, for all the lively, energetic zeitgeisty shit that they've brought into our lives since Windows95. Maybe I'll go in and splurge on a racy keyboard. ( cough )

What makes the Apple stores unique is that they have people there to help you with your purchases (support-wise). Some of it is free and some of it comes under a support agreement (I think it is called AppleCare). Microsoft does not have strong enough partnerships with its hardware vendors to be able to offer something like that.

Nothing would please people more (and they probably would pay for it too) than to have a place to go to and have someone assist them with a driver issue, bsod, or whatever. Regardless of the PC being HP, Dell, Acer, eMachines, etc.

It is probably just going to be a Zune/Xbox/MS Games/Software store with nothing else. Maybe sell keyboards and mice. That is no different from any other electronics store. They really need a section where there are couches and people can lie down and talk to a shrink about their Vista experiences.

Jon Keegan is a douche bag. If the avatar is a picture of the individual then he's a douche bag. If this person thinks the picture is funny then jonkeegan is a douche bag. If this person believes the picture is cool then jonkeegan is a douche bag. So, that avatar makes jonkeegan a douche bag.

Other than that I think your comment is awesome and totally agree with you. I agree with a person that I'm assuming is a douchebag.

I think I've written a very useful comment.

A space that gorgeous deserves to be seen. I hope a nice high-end retailer (whether Microsoft, Barneys, Sony, or whoever) really does set up shop there.

Remember that old post about the gorgeous yet mostly unseen lobbies of NYC.

They oughta just take all the money they'll spend on that store, put it in a bag and burn it in the middle of Flatbush avenue. At least we'd be spared the sad spectacle of another store closing in downtown brooklyn...

this is the Classic Wendy's move. How does Wendy's find out where to open a store? simple. They just open next to Mcdonald's. Mcdonald's does all the calculations and prospecting work and Wendy's reaps the benefits.

I never understood why people would spend their time @ the Apple store (at least in SoHo) checking their emails and doing their bills. In public.

I really don't see a Microsoft store taking off. Their brand just doesn't have a "hip" factor.
