Clinton Lent $6 Million to Campaign, Plans to Keep Going

2008_05_toast.jpgIt's a good thing Bill Clinton made so much money on the speaking tour--he and wife Hillary have lent millions to her presidential campaign, most recently a $6 million loan from the candidate herself, broken up into three installments over the past month.

The Clinton campaign said last night's loss in North Carolina and narrow win in Indiana "strengthens the case that she will be the strongest nominee for the party in November." Still, pundits believe the super delegates will be flocking to Obama and wonder how she'll exit.

But the big news is that former Senator George McGovern is now a former Clinton supporter--he has endorsed Obama after watching last night's primaries and urges Clinton to drop out. He believes Obama has won the nomination "by any practical test," "Hillary, of course, will make the decision as to if and when she ends her campaign. But I hope that she reaches that decision soon so that we can concentrate on a unified party capable of winning the White House next November.

And Political Punch's Jake Tapper has a list of Hillary Clinton to do's: "3. Try to pick off one of the three remaining "Obama" primaries -- Oregon, Montana or South Dakota...5. Point to ugly exit poll data from Indiana showing 50% of Clinton supporters say they will not vote for Obama in the Fall."

McCains so old he wont even Make it to November. His Wife is hot though, I'm sure when Obamas president, he can make Cindy McCain his 2nd 1st Lady....

  • Steven

Shouldn't it say just November? next November would mean 2009.

  • sonyactivision

Hillary is like a TV show that's seamlessly gone into syndication the second the actual one ended. I even think her campaign will continue past the November Sweeps and well into the Spring Season, by which time "The Obamas" will crush her in the ratings and send her show to Lifetime, where cranky Hillary can bitch and moan well into her seventies.

  • matty

Actually I'm just screwing with you. Silly foreigner.

  • matty

Even against McCain. If no one wins there will be no new president.

  • Amanda Harletsch

Amanda, no, in this country it's possible to not have a president at all if there isn't a decisive victory: AGAINST MCCAIN?

  • matty

Amanda, no, in this country it's possible to not have a president at all if there isn't a decisive victory.

We would simply extend George Bush for another 4 years if there wasn't a definitive winner in the election.

  • Amanda Harletsch

"I'm worried she'll drag Obama down with her.

Sort of a "if I can't be president NOBODY CAN kind of thing"

    HOW'S THAT POSSIBLE!?

THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION IS AGAINST A REPUBLICAN...? SO IF OBAMA LOOSES WILL ONLY MEAN THAT A REPUBLICAN WINS!

  • Think2wice

She's still hoping that Michigan and Florida get counted. The DNC should make their decision abundantly clear to her.

  • Dude69

Yes, I expect him to keep income taxes low, reduce government's involvement in private affairs, have a pragmatic plan to exit Iraq without compromising our security, and to jump start our economy without using tax money to "bail out" people who shouldn't have gotten mortgages in the first place.

At the end of the day it's the voters' pocketbooks that dictate how they vote. I have no confidence in an inexperience closet liberal to get us out of the recession.

  • babyhitler

I don't really understand how Obama will get over the wright debacle. sure he wins the shitty states, but it's cause he gets 91% of the black vote. I don't even think republicans get 91% of the republican vote. I know McCain will win in november it's just how much is he gonna win by? I bet california and NY will go to McCain. And for any democrat to lose NY is a travesty. This will be a sobering election for most idealists. I remember it like it was 2000. I thought Gore would solve all our problems and keep the good times clinton adminstration going. The economy was good and the state of the nation was at it's best and there was no way they would vote in Bush. and they did it! and they did it again in 2004! After Obama loses all his supporters will be bitter and blame Clinton and it will be jaded city for another 8 years. Is Karl Rove such a genius that he could destroy the Democratic party for 2 decades?

  • Politburo

Dude69: Will you be telling us what exactly you want and expect McCain to do if he's elected?

  • Dude69

Again it's to her interest to drag this on to the bitter end, and erode Obama's war chest and continue to exploit his political inexperience. Run again in 4 years is better than 8.

I really hope the voters' naive love affair with the political creampuff Obama is over by the time Nov. comes around. I hope commenters who support Obama here tell me what exactly do you want and expect him to do if he's elected.

I heard now McCain is busy targetting the working class Democrats now who are her voting base.

    MCCAIN 2008!!

  • chubbyonekanubby

matty, try "If I cant win the presidency this year, I'm going to make sure a republican wins so I can run again in 2012 and the country will be so desperate for a democrat by then they cant help but pick me"

I hope this ends soon so he can get going toward the general.

  • famdoc

How does Chelsea feel about mom spending her inheritance on a useless campaign?

  • Tgirl

at what price ego? apparently the bidding is still open, she's so transparent.

  • sadpanda

"5. Point to ugly exit poll data from Indiana showing 50% of Clinton supporters say they will not vote for Obama in the Fall."

shows that even clinton supporters can no longer tel her apart from mccain ...

  • tnturner

I'm all for letting the campaigning continue and the nominee be decided at the convention as it's really supposed to be, but Clinton has made this race ugly and she should really heed McGovern's words. He remembers 1972 all too well.

  • Politburo

While Hillary has certainly pissed off a lot of people, myself included, I don't think she has passed the Lieberman threshold.

  • JenChungsBaby

I hope someone credible runs against her in the democratic primary for the NY Senate seat she holds, because I really would like to vote against her in that race.
