There are plants that are dangerous to the local environment. They escape from gardens and wind up spreading to parks, killing off the indigenous flora. In years past nurseries were allowed to sell these plants but laws enacted fifty years ago restricted what plants could be imported. We are still removing foreign plants that act like weeds in our city parks.
