HowBoutDemCowboys, you're right. i'm a dork & i sincerely love my mother (visiting her on sunday), believing her to be a saint, and i am very polite to women (sometimes to my detriment, nice guys finish last). guys always try to justify pron by saying stuff like that (i wasn't calling u stupid & i apologize if it came across that way) but pron is horribly demeaning to women. it just is. & i watch it anyway. because women are beautiful & naked women even moreso & i want to have sex with every woman i see. i can't obviously do that but i can pretend by watching pron. that's really the only justification for it. not some "girl-power" feminist theory but simply that i like to watch a naked woman having sex, whether she is underneath me or on my tv with some lucky slob & watching it, prevents me from cheating & ruining lives. a lot, & i mean A LOT of pron i don't buy or download because it treats women like garbage. it ruins my fantasy but i'm sure there are tons of men who like to see women treated that way. let's not kid ourselves. no girl wants to be a pornstar when she grows up. they fall into it & try to justify it to themselves by spouting feminist theory but they know it's crap & we pretend we don't know it's crap so we don't feel guilty when we watch them. i have a dvd where a tear falls down the girl's face & i don't watch it anymore. it wasn't anything extreme, just a fellatio scene. but it's like she suddenly realized where she was & what she was doing with her life. it was sad.

The issue is not wether porn empowers women. That is irrelevent. There is no law that broadly and vaguely bans "disempowering women" The issue is that it's no one else's business what consenting adults decide to do with thier professional, artistic and sex lives (also let's not forget that there is LOTS of porn with NO WOMEN AT ALL.) You can't condemn porn on the basis that you dont care for it. That would be facism. Prostitition should be legalized on this basis as well. If I want to trade money for sex, there is no reason why the government should have anything to say about it.
